Guest… is the adaptation of Douglas Adams’ wonderful “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. I love the books, the BBC radio and TV shows (well, I love everything Adams wrote; the man was a guru), and I feel very optimistic about the new movie (which started filming last week). The radio and TV shows used an old Eagles instrumental, “Journey of the Sorcerer”, as theme, and it really became, forever, the “Hitchhiker’s Guide” theme. It would be nice to know what would Elfman do of that theme…
The movie’s being made by the Hammer & Tongs team, the british guys who did some of the most amazing music videos ever (Blur’s “Coffee and TV” is an example). Disney’s Spyglass Entertainment is producing the movie, and the cast features some great british and american talent (like “The Office”‘s Martin Freeman or John Malkovich). How I’d love to see Elfman attached to this…April 25, 2004 at 6:27 pm #49733Anonymous

GuestGreat idea! I just finished the first book and was thinking the same thing. Great minds think alike

GuestI say this at the risk of getting verbally decapitated: I never really liked any of Douglas Adams’ work. Now, before you all start sharpening your machetes with gusto, hear me out: I’m not saying he’s a mediocre writer. I’m simply saying that his work never caught on with me, savvy? To quote two horrid break-up lines: “It’s not you, Douglas, it’s me. We’re just not right for each other.” That’s not to say that a Danny-score wouldn’t change my mind, though…
-E (Guard: “Do you have any last words?” Yours truly: “How exactly are we non-Russians supposed to pronounce ‘Nabokov,” and has Sting actually ever read ‘Lolita?'”)

GuestOh, man, E that’s too bad for you! Are you sure you don’t want to give Adams a second chance? The man was a genius, a poet, a terrific comedy writer (he worked with the Pythons, after all) and created the only science fiction books that really mattered to me (well, I also love Philip K. Dick, but Adams was a whole different kind of sci-fi, very close to my heart). Let’s keep fingers crossed. Maybe the directors are Elfman fans.

GuestHe died suddenly, of a heart attack, in 2001. I was incredibly sad, the man was only 49 and had lots of wonderful projects. He had already written the script for the “Hitchhiker’s Guide” movie. They are using it to make the movie, with some new material by Karey Kirkpatrick (the guy who wrote “Chicken Run”). More details in http://www.douglasadams.com or, even better, http://www.douglasadams.se.
But we’re getting off topic! Anyway, let’s hope they ask Elfman to score this. (back on topic, he he). - AuthorPosts
