GuestFYI,
I posted a message a few months back about composing music for an official Spider-Man 2 short film made entirely with Legos and funded by Sony. I’m finished with the music – here’s the link:

It’s really funny – enjoy!

GuestHey Jason,
That was a lot of fun, very clever and cute as well. The music was good. It referenced Elfman’s Spider-Man material quite well. The more bouncy music for the comic elements was good too. Very nice job Jason.
Is this lego film showing in theaters?
Thanks for posting it.

GuestJason,
I just visited your webpage (www.jasongraves.com), and I wanted to tell you that I think you’re work is terrific. I can’t seem the access the MP3.com page for your albums though (but I did sample Seeds of Darkness, which is very good). In any case, I hope you land a feature film gig in the future.
Best Regards,

GuestAwesome. Awesome. Awesome.
…and cool as well. They need to do more movies/lego versions of things. I think I saw a Star Wars one a while back.

GuestVery nice music. It sounds very professional. I wasn’t crazy about the whole lego thing, though. If they’re gonna’ do something like that, why not make it completely original?

GuestSo this is THE Jason Graves that wrote the composition. I loved it. It hinted on Elfman’s previous themes and it was toned down for the lego based setting. The subtle playful comic relief jeers were icy on the cake also.
I was impressed by the quality of the choir samples you used. Where did you buy it from? I’d like to experiment with them samples myself.

GuestYep, amazing work Jason. I’m really impressed by the quality of this short…even though it’s not even close to the Lego version of the Camelot song in Monty Python’s Holy Grail !
Just kidding….

GuestIf only you could have been booked to work on Spider-Man 2! There’s lots of music in that movie that needs new music plainly because it’s old. Good job, I loved the music in the Lego short, which was very well-done for a Lego film. I hope that you get booked for a feature film someday!

GuestWow – thanks for all the great feedback. To answer some questions:
Dylan – mp3.com is forever down and my website is emabarrisingly out of date. My apologies!
Flynn – Yes, we also did a Star Wars thing for Lego a few years back – The Han Solo Affair. It’s at my company’s website – http://www.rednoteaudio.com
Mr. Dantz – The short was really for a PR blitz for the new LEGO toys, hence the LEGO toys. I know if I were a kid and saw it I would kill for the playsets to reacreate the action!
Adrian – Yeah, THE Jason Graves, ha. I was really excited to get an actual credit on this one. What a concept! The choir was custom done for the project. Believe it or not, it was just four high school kids with really good pitch that I quadruple-tracked and stacked for the final effect. I also recorded one trumpet and trombone and stacked all the brass parts. Everything else is MIDI…
Edward and Spider-Fan – Thanks again for being so kind. I was almost afraid to post a link here from fear of being berated for trying to knock off Elfman. It was fun doing a take on his main theme and using all the cool octatonic stuff for Doc Ock. The production schedule was a nightmare, but the end result is all I care about!
It was a real challange to “sound” like Elfman but still be funny and cartoony and match EVERY FREAKIN’ FRAME of animation AND keep Sony happy AND meet the two week deadline AND….well, you get the point!
Right now I’m finishing up the original game score for the new King Arthur movie. Same as Spider-Man, it’s got to sound like Zimmer’s score without actually being Zimmer. I guess imitation is the sincerest for of flattery, huh?
