GuestI recently rediscovered the albums from 80s british band XTC, and if there is a band that can be called the british Oingo Boingo, it’s these guys. Lead singer, composer and guitarist Andy Partridge has composition skills which could have made him a terrific film composer (he did something in that vein; he recently created the theme for the short lived series “Wonderfalls”), and there are several songs which sound like Boingo. It’s really funny and inspired stuff, not as dark as some Boingo songs but amazing, literate and very catchy pop and rock. Just listen to their most famous album, “English Settlement” (1982) and the very recent “Apple Venus – Vol. 1” and chances are you’ll get seriously addicted.

GuestI leaned of them through a mutual “They Might Be Giants” Fan and really enjoyed the Apple Venus album. “They Might Be Giants” even wrote a song about XTC doing battle with Adam Ant (‘XTC vs. Adam Ant’ on the Factory Showroom CD).

GuestXTC even had an alter ego band named “Dukes of Stratosphear.” They were more a tribute to the 60’s psychadelic bands.
