GuestBah! Looks dumb. I recently talked to Xena/Hercules producer Eric Gruendemann who informed me that they’re giving tons of money artsy directors, a la Bourne Supremacy (bad) and Prisoner of Azkaban (not as good as the first two HPs). I think that’s the case with Batman Begins. It’s going to be very wordy and boring and the little action in the movie won’t be worth waiting for. That’s just my prediction. Go Burton! Go Elfman!

GuestI really agree. I think Warner Bros. should swallow their pride and get Burton to fix what they screwed up. They know they screwed the franchise up. They thought Batman 4 was gonna be great and ended up getting a rude awakening.
They need to do a Dallas and make it all a dream. Better yet, just disregard the last few movies and pick up where Batman 2 left off.

GuestI couldn’t possibly agree with you more, Dawg! You’re airing the very voice of my anger at what’s happened to the Batman movie franchise. It’s such a damn shame, as Batman is one of the best movie worlds out there, when done right. The comcis were great, the animated seires – wow!! Danny & Tim’s Movies – WOW!!! Batman has incredible potential, and it’s being destroyed by these blundering people who aren’t hearing these outcries we make. This sounds big-headed, but in these situations, we are right, the studio is wrong. Simple. It seems to me that, as a generalisation here, studios aren’t making enough effort to see what the public expects. Having said that, movies shouldn’t be made just to please the masses. They are still artistic efforts, as well as money-making projects. However, Batman is a special case, I think. It’s one of those things where, as well as pleasing the masses, the true fans should recognise it as a worthy representation of what they love.

Guest“Batman 5”? slap yourself. Christopher Nolan is the man.

GuestAnyone who questions the filmmaking abilities of Christopher Nolan should watch the two exceptional pictures he has made thus far: MEMENTO and INSOMNIA. The teaser is weak and poorly conceived, and you can’t get worked up about a film until you’ve actually seen it.
And what does this have to do with Danny Elfman??? Tenuous connection at best. He isn’t involved with BATMAN BEGINS.

GuestBatman Begins is not Batman 5. It’s the fifth installment of the Batman franchise, but their starting the franchise all over again. I’ve seen pictures of Batman. He look incredible. Here’s a link to a site that has a great picture of him. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/batmanonfilm/beginsbatmanpic2.jpg. No bat nipples, and I doubt there’s any view of the buttocks like in the last two bat films. The Bat sign on his chest look great and his utility belt is the best Batman belt yet.
The trailer is not the Theatrical Trailer, it’s a teaser trailer. There might be another teaser trailer or just 2 or 3 more trailers in general. I,Robot I think has like 4 or 5 trailers and like 3 of them were altered a big, adding more footage. So far, Batman Begins looks ok. At least they’ll explain his origin this time, for the first time. Even Ra’s Al Ghul doesn’t look bad either at these two links http://www.sanspo.com/geino/top/gt200408/image/04080303kenMT203802.jpg and http://www.sanspo.com/geino/top/gt200408/image/04080303kenMT204802.jpg. Can’t wait, until it comes out. 2005

GuestWell, to me this looks fine. I trust Christopher Nolan will do a great job (he’s a true storyteller, not a loud exhibitionist like Joel Schumacher), and Christian Bale is an excellent actor. Plus, this may not be Burton, but it seems to have a Frank Miller kind of vibe which may surprise us all. Let’s not crucify this one this early. Tim Burton is working in exciting new stuff like “Charlie” and “The Corpse Bride”, so let the Batman franchise be reimagined by another director. I guess we all agree that it’s much, much better to have a Christopher Nolan working on this than a Pitof. By the way, I’m really disappointed that he messed up “Catwoman”. As Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s digital effects guy, he did some impressive work in “Delicatessen”, “City of the Lost Children” and “Amélie”.

Guest“they’re giving tons of money artsy directors, a la Bourne Supremacy (bad) and Prisoner of Azkaban (not as good as the first two HPs)”
Huh…you’re one of the first people I’ve heard call The Bourne Supremacy bad. In my opinion, it was amazing (and the shaky camerawork really added something to the movie instead of taking away).
I’m weird though. I thought the new HP movie was the best of the three thus far.
As for this Batman, it’s not Batman 5. It’s Batman 1. That means Mr. Freeze hasn’t happened. I think this could be the best comic movie we’ve seen in a long time, assuming Chris Nolan keeps up the level of quality he’s known for.

GuestI don’t think it looks that bad, actually.
Although, this is coming from someone who didn’t really like the first Burton Batman movie.

GuestYES! I think what Burton`s fans will be very dissapointed with this movie.Because Nolan really didn’t like the first (and the second) Burton Batman movie. He says in in interview what burton`s Batman was too (!!!!) dark and ghotic…. and he says what Gotham city was claustrofobic, etc, etc….(!!!!!!) and other crap. Gotham city was claustrofobic???? Maybe yes… BUT I LOVE THIS CITY! The image of city in Burton`s films was as the additional character. He will change city – he will change Batman.

GuestI’m all for a different and fresh point of view. Why not? I certainly don’t want more of the same.

Guestlooks stupid, cause for one, Batman’s origions have been told already, so why is he still struggling with his past, And what makes this film crappy is that its the total opposite of what Batman & Robin was, instead of completely campy, its completely serious, What Burton was able to capture with the first two films was a good balance of the two, but it seems that the balance of the two doesnt cross the minds of movie makers. At least we have Spider-Man, which Sam Raimi definatly creates the same kinda balance with Spider-Man that Burton did with Batman. Whenever a film based on a comic book is being made, The balance of comic and reality should be the most important thing(I mean unless its somthing like a Unbreakable, or somthing based on a graphic novel like From Hell or Road to Perdition) If it’s made to realistic, theres no point in making a comic book flick, and if its totally campy than no ones gonna buy it.

GuestJust a thought. Heavy gothic styling can give people an impression of claustrophobia. Why do you think Elfman freaked when he heard his music squashed in the mix? It wasn’t thart it was quiet, but that it sounded muddy. The visuals of Batman can give the same impression when poorly presented or reduced in size.

GuestI agree with most peops here, this move is nothing more than a pathetic atempt to milk the batman concept even further. I have much respect for Christian Bale from Equillibrium but he can never be Batman, no way. It’s almost as silly as if Gerorge Cloney should be the one playing Batman… wait, eeek I think he was, HERETICS. Keaton is the one and only.
I love the gothic and dark environments in Burtons movies and I can never forgive Schumacher for replacing this with his stupid neonlights, rubber ice (b n r) and the searchlights that follows the characters (b n r). The only gothic thing in his movies is the lunatic assylum which is, imo, to dark and extreme. Where did the beautiful choirmusic go btw? No need for choirmusic if the movie got a total lack of feeling.
This new movie will probably be just that, new. Since Burton with his first movie explained the origin of Batman and Schumacher filled in with a more detailed explaination (more detailed, but far from good) in Forever I guess this new movie will be standing on its own legs, descibing a different batman-universe. Btw, judging from the screenshots on the warner bros. homepage, was the first batmobile actually a battletank??
