Once, again, though not entirely reliable, IMDb.com has posted a new movie on Danny Elfman’s filmography: Batman 5. It says next to it in parentheses, “original theme.” Then it says under the original music section that David Julyan is the main composer, right underneath Elfman’s name. Would Christopher Nolan be so distasteful as to use the classic original theme from Batman worked in by a different, nobody composer?

Hey, David Julyan’s no slouch as far as I’m concerned!

Well, I certainly would be that distasteful. It’s the BATMAN THEME. THEME for BATMAN. It’s his THEME. Frankly, as far as I’m concerned, if I see Batman anywhere in any shape or form, he should most certainly be accompanied by the Elfman-written theme. It’s a compliment to Danny in my eyes that Nolan would use it.

Everyone calm down. How many times do we have to remind people that it’s the IMDB we’re talking about here. Elfman’s theme will not be in this movie (if it even happens, and there is no certainty of that, considering Batman himself has not been cast).

There is no reason for WB to use Elfman’s theme in another Batman movie, considering they didn’t for the last two.

You know, if that plagued upcoming Batman movie ever gets made, I wouldn’t be surprised if Danny ended up scoring it. Considering his track-record.

Anyhow, I’m sure, (I hope), that everyone here takes imdb’s gossip with a block of salt.

Actually, if another Batman were to happen, I’d call it the third Batman. The last two don’t exist in my little world (except for the scary nightmare bits)….

Actually, this film is supposed to be a “restart” of the entire series. (despite the fact that IMDB is calling it Batman 5). In other words, Chris Nolan’s film has nothing to do with the last series, nothing to do with Keaton’s performance, nothing to do with Burton’s vision, and (thank God) nothing to do Schumacher’s interpretation. This is a new version…which could mean that Elfman’s theme may be taken out because it is part of the old series.

But there’s also a possibility that they would leave it in. They used it in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES and that wasn’t supposed to be in the same continuity as the Batman films. Yet people still accepted it because, as SleepyHello put it, it WAS the theme (even when Goldenthal came in). They have been currently using John Williams’s SUPERMAN march for SMALLVILLE, which is also in a different continuity. So it is very likely that something such as “Music by [some composer’s name here] Batman Theme by Danny Elfman” will happen. I don’t think that Elfman would mind. He didn’t compose the score of all the animated Batman episodes that featured his theme. Yet he let Shirley Walker use it when she scored them (and she later made her own which is slower and sounds more heroic).

My opinion: If they can use Superman’s theme in Smallville, then they can use Elfman’s theme for the new Batman series.

Let’s just hope that Chris Nolan has the integrity to actually make the Batman film.

The same can’t be said for would-be DC directors like Rater, Aronofsky and Wolfgang Petersen who use big-league franchises as a springboard to launch their respective new projects.

I am personally really looking forward to this project, if it actually gets made.

Christopher Nolan is easily the best new director (for those who don’t know, he directed Memento, the remake of Insomnia, and the little seen super-independent Following).

There are rumors that the villian of this movie will either be Scarecrow or the Mad Hatter. Which is really awesome because those are my two favorite villians.

It has also been said that this movie may even be darker than Burton’s two, and will definatly not feature Robin or Batgirl.

Pish, the new Batgirl kicks butt (and that would be Cassandra)! But let’s have nothing of that Robin deal….

I’m all for a new Batman movie, but only if it’s done all nice and properly. I mean, yes, liberties must be made–but there’s only so much distortion you can take.
(To this day I shudder to think of those non-Burton, non-Michael Batman movies).

I always thought it’d be kinda nice if they did a movie about the Batman villans–sorta like Arkham Asylum or something. Batman’s great, but so are the villans, and it’d be snazzy to see ’em get some screen time on their own and such….
