I recently heard that Burton’s Gotham set in the UK for Batman Returns partially burnt down during filming, an that arson was suspected… but I can’t find anything about it on the web. Does anyone know anything? Or was it just a silly rumour?

The JWell, although the first BATMAN was shot in the UK, the second film was filmed on the Warner Bros’ lot in beautiful downtown Burbank. In either case, they were sets that probably been collecting dust for some time. I haven’t heard anything like what you’re talking about, though.
As the previous poster said, “Batman Returns” was shot at Warner Bros. in Burbank, California. I wandered down the set one day myself, before a guard kicked me off. The main exterior set has since been converted back into a normal, non-Gotham street set, so there is no truth at all to this rumor.
