I just saw Big Fish folks… and who ever said that this one is not in the flavor of “vintage Burton” has a serious ass kicking coming their way.

This movie was so damn incredible. It isn’t only the big stuff like the dark forest that make it the ultimate Burton dish but the small stuff too. Case in point: There is a shot where Edward Bloom walks up to Danny DeVito’s trailer at night (as the trailer is banging back and fourth like the penguin’s — get the little in-joke?) and we get a peak at three circus perfomers sitting outside of it in the moon light. Wait for this scene! Treasure it! Holy crap! I almost wetted myself. Just that frame alone brought be back to Peewee or Batman Returns or whatever the hell he does that keeps us coming back!

    *Sigh*

    …but enough about Burton.

Coincidently enough there are some tracks that our boy Danny wrote for this movie (and I know he wrote these!!!) but are not on the CD (pray for a composer commentary on the DVD). What are they? You guessed it. It’s the circus music. Not only the circus music per say though. Most of the normal score that played out with the circus portion of the film is missing. There is a moment where we see the Big Top for the first time and are introcuced (by Devito, the ringleader) to the fire-breathing “collosus”. Elfman hits this scene with such a dark circusy flare that you would think it a sister-cue to that “Backyard Circus” track from Big Top PeeWee. You Elfman fans know what I’m talking about. Those peaking trills and cymbal crashes (ala Darkman & ect) have been missed dearly.

…It just stands for everything the man did in his hayday.

    MY REVIEW: BIG FISH ROCKED!!!

that’s why we have pirates out there…

and if you can’t wait for the dvd, then just mix Fish with Big Top and Sommersby and Black Beauty together on one cd and there you go…oh and put Family Man in there, too, for that lack of choir…that’ll hold ya off…
Oh by the way, incidentally concerning the score: there’s some promo score stuff on ebay for Big Fish, but word to the wise: It looks like they just copied the original soundtrack on a blank cd, and instead of calling the last track “Jenny’s Theme” they call it “End Titles 2.” So don’t wet your shorts if you happen to see this cd, because it’s a gyp job, more than likely. Obviously not worth the 35 bucks someone is willing to pay for it….

Ooooh, so it was good? Not out in theaters yet here…. must see…. must hear… been waiting! Ack, it’s torture being an Elfman fan…. especially when those things at the end of previews go so fast you can’t see if he wrote the music or not and have to check here or the poster! ^^

I saw it today after making a short trip into the city. INCREDIBLE! This is one of the most beautiful pieces of work that I’ve ever seen on film. Tim Burton really reached a career landmark, creating a movie that can be liked by everyone, including normal people. Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney both performed incredibly, with great support from or buds Steve Buscemi (if you haven’t seen it, watch at the bank) and Danny DeVito. And, of course, the music. It was so beautiful throughout the movie that I was sweating with excitement after each cue, anxious for the next one. I really enjoyed Sandra’s theme and the music at the end when Will is driving Edward in the car. It was an incredibly Elfman-y day, as there was the Spider-Man 2 trailer shown beforehand (with the original Spider-Man music in it) in addition to passing posters for Big Fish, Batman, and Dick Tracy on the way to the theater. It made me feel very good, and I’m very proud of Elfman and Burton’s work on this movie.

Dawg Man: “and who ever said that this one is not in the flavor of “vintage Burton” has a serious ass kicking coming their way.”

What I believe I said was — BASED ON THE TRAILER, it does not look like a story Burton would have been drawn to. I have not seen the movie — all I had for an evaluation at this time was shots from the TRAAAAIIILLLLEEERRR, none of which specifically scream out “BURTON”.

Thank you SO much for actually READING my earlier posts before lambasting me, and thank you also for allowing me to have a different opinion without threatening me with violence.
