I can’t believe I forgot to say anything about this before, but I arranged the Main Titles from Black Beauty (no, it’s not the WHOLE Main Titles, but give me a little credit, here) for solo piano. Tell me what you think, everybody!

    I think it’s in 6/8.

6/8 is a bit more logical for the music in print since it groups the notes in a more visible indication of the underlying rhythm (6/8 will in this case have two slow beats rather than 3/4’s 3 fast ones), but otherwise it looks very good (sorry, I’m at work, and I don’t trust my aural skills)! Question: Are you sure the mordents are inverted?

Blunt is right, it looks good. He’s also right that the mordents shouldn’t be inverted. :)
The first page is a bit uncomfortable to play because melody (violin) and arpeggio (harp) share the same a’. It’s correct, but maybe you could try to adapt the music so it’s more suitable for solo piano.

You’re right about the mordents. I forgot that with those you’re supposed to play the note, go DOWN, then go back up, instead of the other way around. If that’s the case, I’m not sure how to notate it the other way. The only other things I can think of are trills and turns, but those don’t fit, either. Please help on this.

As far as the time signature, while 6/8 may fit the piece, a feel that 3/4 is better for the following reasons. When I think of 6/8, I associate it with it having the most emphasis on the 1st and 4th beats, as in a two. If I were to change it to 6/8, more emphasis would be put on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th beats, putting in a three, which I don’t tend to associate with 6/8. So I would rather keep it in 3/4. I think it fits better.

You’re probably right about the closeness of the two hands together, but I think if the right hand was higher or the left hand lower, the piece might not sound as good. If you have other suggestions, let me know.

The mordents you want are notate like you did, but without the vertical line crossing them.

I’m sorry, I’ve lost you there.
What I was trying to say was: The piece should be in 6/8, and the harp arpeggio has to be in 16th notes instead of 8th (12 notes per bar). As a result, the whole gesture will sound much more fluent and less “machine-like”.

Ah-HA *(insert light bulb being turned on here)*! I understand now. Thank you for clearing that up, and it does make sense. I’ll go ahead change both of those little errors. Thanks, again.

You’re welcome, if I understood that correctly.
