I don’t remember if this has already been posted, but probably not, cos this was news to me…

Burton is already filming Willy Wonka!!! He’s filming it in the Nestlé factory in Yorkshire, England. I found this out from a film-buff friend of mine who is currently studying at York university. Apparently, there had been some sightings of Depp in a couple of the bars in the area!!!

Was he in costume? I wonder what he looks like in Wonka attire. Is Coleen Atwood on this one?

Gabriella Pescucci is credited for the costumes on imdb.
I’m really happy that Tim is working production designer Alex McDowell on this film and The Corpse Bride. He’s a really talented and inventive guy…

Na , it’s Gabriella Pescucci. She is very talented though … she has worked on Van Helsing , Once Aopn a Time in Mexico , Midsummer Nights Dream , La Triviata ( my personal fav opera ) and the up coming Brothers Grimm starring Matt Damon.

I’m really looking forward to Terry Gilliam’s “Brothers Grimm”, like Burton he is another visual director with a distinctive voice. To bad Kamen has passes on, I would have thought this film right up his alley.

P.S. My favorite Opera is also by Verdi but it’s Il Trovatore.

La Triviata also had gorgeous cinematography by Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now, The Conformist, and the lovely color noir of Dick Tracy). I’d love a DVD of it to come out soon.

And the composer for the Brothers Grimm is Italian composer Dario Marianelli. Gilliam has expressed great love for his music, and I’m looking forward to what he’ll do with this film.

For more information on Grimm, listen to an interview with Gilliam here:

Dylan, who conducted (and with which orchestra) in that film version of La Triviata?

    Nat,

Zubin Mehta conducts the “Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della” according to Amazon.com’s listing for the film’s soundtrack. Unfortunately I only caught a little bit of it, but Vittorio Storaro’s cinematography was just GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS, and the music of course was incredible. You can watch clips from the film here:

Next time it’s on TV, I’m taping it…or better yet, I hope PBS releases a DVD.

I did some searching, and it looks like Gabriella Pescucci didn’t work on the 2001 film of Traviata I saw that Vittorio Storaro did such a wonderful job with. The one she worked on is from 1992.

Oh, and the English translation for the orchestra used to perform the 2001 performance is RAI Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. I’m sorry for all of the confusion. But Verdi fans should definately see the version Storaro shot, it looks simply gorgeous.

Gabriella Pescucci has had a wondeful career, she did marvelous work on “Age of Innocence,” and she worked with legendary directors Visconti and Fellini, as well as many of Gilliam’s films. I look incredible forward to seeing her work on “Charlie.”

Erm, no… he wasn’t in costume. Why would he be in costume, he was just chilling out in some bars…
