Keymaster“Scored with catchy deviltry by Danny Elfman” – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
“At the moment a child is eliminated from competition, the Oompa Loompas break into marvelous song and dance numbers that utilize Dahl’s lyrics from the book. (Danny Elfman wrote the spirited music.)” – Kirk Honeycutt, The Hollywood Reporter
“Whether you like them or hate them (and I fall into the former category), the songs don’t last long, so this places Charlie and the Chocolate Factory into the category of a fractured fairy tale, not a musical. Still, there’s plenty of satire and wit in these songs – most of which will go over the heads of children in the audience.” – James Bernadelli, Reel Reviews

ParticipantI’ve seen pretty much only good reviews. I did see a negative review by a fan on Amazon.com, but he was too tied to the original and had no concept of what this film was about. He even attacked the lyrics which, as we know, were written by Dahl.
Great stuff!!

ParticipantThe Boston Globe review made no mention of Danny’s music other than that the Oompa Loompas sing to each child’s demise. By “they don’t last long,” does that mean we won’t be hearing the enire songs in the movie like we do on the CD? I love the songs! My question will be answered in a few hours when I go see it.

ParticipantPart of the Augustus Gloop song _was_ edited out of the film:
“We’ll boil him for a minute more / until we’re absolutely sure / then out he’ll come, by God, by Grace / A miracle has taken place, a miracle has taken place.”
All missing. My guess is that the WB freaked because these lines suggest that he’ll be boiled down and turned into fudge (we later get concrete proof that that’s not what has happened to him, but still…)
All the other songs seem intact (and indeed, they’re not very long!)

ParticipantNo, they are just very short songs ! I think only Augustus Gloop’s song is a bit longer on the cd but only because the intro is more gradual.
I’ll eventualy receive the cd tomorrow, thanks to a friend who is coming back from Canada with it. Man, I had to use trickery to get this one…

ParticipantOh well, that’s too bad. The film is creepy enough though…

KeymasterHere’s another, from my favorite website in the world, http://www.defamer.com.
“The Danny Elfman music numbers, performed by a chorus of Oopmpa Loompas each time one of the factory-touring brats are “offed,” are worth the overpriced ArcLight ticket all by themselves.”

ParticipantExcept CATCF isn’t playing at Arclight.
