GuestDeath to Smoochy??? I’m not at all surprised it wasn’t nominated, but I AM surprised that ANYone ANYwhere invested money in its production. Oh, well.
A round-about congratulations to Elfman for being attached to an award-winner, although everyone in my town who went to see “Chicago” left the theater before it was even over. I suppose I shall have to go see it and find out what all the hype is about. The ads alone have let me know I should sit in the back so I don’t get a headache from all the motion.
I think Michael Moore needs to spend a day or two in the Middle East — ANY Middle-Eastern country. I guarantee he’d appreciate even a “fictitious” president after such an experience.

GuestMichael Moore has done numerous pieces for his two television shows — TV NATION and THE AWFUL TRUTH — in which he himself goes to various middle eastern countries. Persumably, he spent more than a day or two there on at least one occasion.
And I don’t believe that Moore ever said that he was against the idea of liberating Iraq, or that he is not supportive of our nation’s men and women in the military, or even that he’s against removing Saddam from power. He lashed out at Bush and said that he’s against the war. Did he go about it in a wise way? Probably not.
People don’t seem to understand, that one can be supportive of the US troops, wish for the liberation of Iraq, and want Saddam out of power all while simultaneously being against the war. I would place myself in that category. I think most Frenchman and Germans would too. I don’t like the idea of cities being bombed and both US and Iraqi citzens dying in large numbers. I think diplomancy was not given a chance to work, and that the US is seriously damaging its relationship and standing with other nations.
How much of Iraq will be reduced to rubble by the time this thing is over? How many citizens — military and civilian — will be dead? How deep in the hole, financially, will our own country be, and what will our allies think of us? These are all questions of extreme relevence that should have been given more consideration when the idea of going to war was being pondered. I love my country, but have the unsettling feeling that I’m watching it get run into the ground.
