Guest“p.s. Elfman is not a hack. Your acting like a punk ass gangster by bad-mouthing a fellow composer. It’s all music and must be respected, be it to your liking or not. Don’t act so childish.”

GuestWell, let’s see now…if *I* think someone’s a hack, I do not respect them…meaning that I do not like ’em or their work. (After all, how in the blazes can you like someone’s music if you do not respect them/their work)? I term someone a “hack” if I could write similar themes and fit them into the movie with little difficulty, and little change in the film’s overall mood. (Although I”m not a film composer, or any sort of composer for that matter, I do have a fairly decent knowledge of compositional techniques).
Although I’d consider Danny’s “Edward” theme to be “simple” in the fact that it is a conjunct melody with little rhythmic variation, I’d have a helluva time writing it. Why? That theme fits seamlessly within that film, without overpowering it (which is what Danny does quite well); something I could never do. Most anyone with general musical knowledge can write a theme – it’s what you do with that theme that counts – how it fits into the film itself that really matters. Elfman’s themes (with one exception, imo) fit flawlessly into the films…he is a fantastic example of near-perfect “scoring to film” techniques, as well as writing memorable themes. Those two aspects make Elfman the film composer I most admire. (Well…that, and I think he was pretty snazzy-looking from 85 – 89, but that came after I discovered Boingo…hahaha!)
J – What’s your definition of “hack,” and exactly how does Danny fit your definition?
-E (yeah, so the “Danny is saucy” comment negated my entire diatribe…oh well!)

Guestmy words have no power here, so study Elfmans music and come to the comclusion yourself like I did, not on an internet message board.
although Knights words are entertaining, they just arent worth my time. i have better things to do. this discussion is over, i have said what i wanted to.

GuestJ – Cute. Best wishes, and maybe, if you’re still nice, I’ll make you a Bucky Bear Badge. You really think I come to conclusions on an internet message board? Well, think what you like. Looks like we’ve both said what we’ve needed to say, so cheers…have a fantastic life, man…

GuestThank you Robert

Knight (I would have to agree, Danny’s music has always stuck with me while other’s music has faded away)
