GuestYes, I always need help. All right, I am currently working on a score for a film my friends and I are creating with a camcorder. Since I am only fifteen and have no extensive musical training, I am taking a considerably long amount of time to prepare themes and ideas before I score the finished project. Though I am young, I’m very musically inclined and have been reasied in music. I’ve written many songs for my own evjoyment and some theme ides for the film. But when it comes to putting the music into the scenes and things, I’m not so sure I can do it. What I’m saying is that I need some tips from anyone who can help. I know a lot of you are composers or musically inclined, like me, so I thought I could find help here. So, if anyone could help me with anything they can think of to, it would be greatly appreciated!
Post here, or Email me, or IM me (AOL: PURdannyPLE, or MSN).
THANK YOU GUYS!!

GuestI don’t think there’s really a “right” way of doing it. It’s just best to just go for it and see what happens, and as time goes by, you’ll just develop this skill. Anyhow, Danny usually has that attitude, and he always turns out with something great.

GuestYeah…. It’s just getting things in the right way and finding the right places to put cues (<< that the right kinda of cues?) is kind of challenging. My music is very scattereed and wierd, and I'm not to good with sudden things coming up. But I'm the only one in our group of people making the movie who can do it. sooooo.... I guess I'll just wing it! And maybe some people can help a little, and see what happens. If I screw up the movie.... oh well, I guess. ~’*.:PIP:.*’~

GuestI’m sure all the great film composers have the same trouble.

GuestI like to find certain places to put in little music cues first, such as a cymbal crash on a lightning strike, or even a wave of an arm. Just the little things. I put in the little stuff that I think is most important to get the most out of the visual/musical effect, then I go back and fill it in with music and make it seamless.

GuestYeah, I’ve been doing things like that while we film. Watching how peoplemove and thinking about small things I could put in there. All the movies in them. The only example I have in my head is from the Haunted Mansion (I just went to Disneyland) when there’s always this resounding symbol and violin, I think it was whenever Eddie Murphy turns around and the butler is there. Just stuff like that. I personally like me harp strum when the boy drop the bread…. I dunno why I like that, it’s my favourite thing I’ve done so far.

GuestIf you watch the Nightmare Before Christmas, right at the beginning there’s a very, very small part where there are leaves flowing by the camera. There’s a little woodwind part right at that time that flows right along with it at exactly the right time. It’s little details like that that make a score so wonderful. It might not be very apparent with some people, but sub-contiously, it works. Especially with Elfman’s stuff.

GuestYeah, that’s what I’ve been trying. Just a lotta little stuff. I think it’s working pretty well, since no big score has been written yet, only little bits like has been said. I think I wat to write it in F minr, though. My fav key.
Maybe D minor and A minor stuff, too. I love minor shords, but the sweet stuff I dunno what to write it in. I’ll prolly change it a lot.~’*.:PIP:.*’~
