Has anyone bought CORPSE BRIDE on DVD and checked out the music only track? It’s fantastic. No terrible volume changes (though there are some adjustments made throughout). It’s great hearing all the songs without vocals — really makes you appreciate the detail that Elfman’s put into the music half.
Beware the bootlegs!

February 1, 2006 at 8:33 am #56313TenderLumplingParticipantYeah, that isolated score track is great. I wish Nightmare had the same feature. The material itself in the Corpse Bride DVD isn’t all that great — passable, at best. It must’ve been geared toward the kiddies.
It seems like all of Danny’s score sessions have been fully documented these days. It would be great if they went all out and showed a few passes of a cue(s), like in the Panic Room DVD.
February 1, 2006 at 4:21 pm #56314Spider-FanParticipantThe DVD is #1 on my Blockbuster Online cue. I’m not going to buy it because although it’s a great movie, there are other movies that I’d much rather spend the $20 on to own forever. Right now, “The Lion King” is at the top of my list. I recently got back into it after a very long time span of having not seen it, and I’ve discovered that it’s a fantastic movie with a Zimmer score that actually deserved the Oscar it received (those were the days). Anywho, I should be getting the “Corpse Bride” DVD within the next two days. Can’t wait!
February 1, 2006 at 6:11 pm #56315KipobeParticipantWeird, I just watched Lion King this morning as I did Edward Scissorhands. Seriously, I can’t work for myself much longer if I wanna turn a dime at some point.
February 1, 2006 at 6:34 pm #56316Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterI hated THE LION KING. Just the bottom of the barrell marketing clap-trap from Disney with ultra-lame Elton John songs! I wonder what all of those neo-con parents told their kids when Uncle Elton got married to another man. Ahaha

More so than Black Beauty?
February 1, 2006 at 10:25 pm #56319chocothraxParticipantThe lion king has a very interesting video with Zimmer on it. It shows him playing an all strings patch on his keyboard. Interesting to hear him play it and then listen to the finished score with real orchestra.

Sadly, I think so. I think “Black Beauty” is a great score, but I’m much more fond of “The Lion King.” Zimmer was very innovative in blending his own style with African elements, especially his collaboration with Lebo M. Maybe it’s that I grew up with “The Lion King” and hadn’t even seen “Black Beauty” until years after it was released. I still feel that “The Lion King” is a gorgeous, memorable, and emotionally moving score.
February 2, 2006 at 12:31 am #56321TenderLumplingParticipantOops, Black Beauty, sorry.
February 2, 2006 at 4:39 am #56326Dawg ManParticipantIt’s hard to top Black Beauty, I’m sorry. Zimmer’s great (when he actually uses a damn orchestra) but Elfman took that movie by storm.
February 4, 2006 at 1:17 am #56352Spider-FanParticipantNow focusing back on the DVD, which I’ve finally received. Maybe it’s my TV, but the music was blaring over the dialogue, often drowning it out, although I had this problem in the theaters as well. I think the features are great, very enlightening and interesting. Danny’s bit was pretty nice as well. Instead of the “Charlie” DVD where the main focus was on the songs, they allowed him some time on this one to talk a little bit about the score. The music track its neat as well, but severely needed is a commentary. One of my favorite things is that the finale sounds so much broader and beautiful in the movie than it does on the CD.
February 4, 2006 at 4:27 am #56355Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterI think “The Finale” in the film is shorter. There are a few differences – particularly in the wedding sequences. Music on the album not in the film, that sort of thing.

February 4, 2006 at 4:41 am #56356Spider-FanParticipantThe finale in the film is cut up a bit and the last parts are cut off, but what I love is that the orchestra and choir sound much richer in the film’s cut of the music cue. Notable is just as the camera passes over Victor and Victoria towards the moon, when the strings sound a lot like “Edward Scissorhands” (I don’t know music terminology) and sound differently than they do on the CD track. They did the same thing on “Charlie” with the main titles, where in the film there was an electronic noise that was not on the CD, and also the blasts of brass during the “Psycho” part of “Mike Teavee” in the movie that were omitted from the CD track.
By the way, if anyone happens to have an mp3 of the “Charlie” track of the river cruise that was actually in the movie (the variation on the main titles that eventually segues into its own track), could you please post? Thanks!
