Hopefully we’ll see them work together, another great paring for Danny, I know that Tim Burton used him for years, until Ed Wood. A Deloris Claibore Director had worked with him ex Proof of Life and barry Sonnenfield MIB II who else was there?

Sam Raimi (Darkman, Army of Darkness, A Simple Plan, Spider-Man), Brett Ratner (The Family Man, Red Dragon), and ofcourse Richard Elfman!

It’s Taylor Hackford. Don’t forget Gus van Sant: To Die For, Psycho, and Good Will Hunting

Ratner has been off “Superman” for some time now. So far, there is no new director attached. This is the second time in five years that “Superman” has been derailed.

I’ve always thought it was a good idea, the ongoing director / composer collaboration. Burton and Elfman’s relationship, and how the music compliments the movie’s tone instead of overshadowing it, is assured, where a new collaboration demands the composer to sit on the director’s shoulders to figure it out, and the have the director sit on the composer’s shoulders to explain why this, this, and that didn’t match his “vision”.

Look at the diversity of John Williams’ work with Steven Spielberg, Bernard Herrmann’s work with Hitchcock and, believe it or not, Jerry Goldsmith’s stuff with Joe Dante.

Although I believe Elfman has done some very brilliant work for other directors, his music for his continuing collaborators always seems to be the most inspired (especially with Tim Burton). It just seems to be the case with composers. No one can accuse Nino Rota of “phoning in” a score for Federico Fellini.

Maybe it’s because the composer knows that their chances for being rejected are slightly slimmer than normal ;)
