Guesthmm… I thought some of the stuff in Matrix II & III was shite (excuse my french). The only GOOD techno, that was put to any GOOD use was in the first Matrix Movie. It’s VERY hard to make techno work in a movie. You might wanna check out what the current head of music at Fox has to say – I totally agree with him! (soz, can’t remember his name). Although, he does has some pretty aggressive views on some stuff. But I certainly agree with him regarding the techno-crap…

GuestThe J I disagree with “It’s VERY hard to make techno work in a movie”…or ” thought some of the stuff in Matrix II & III was —-e . The only GOOD techno, that was put to any GOOD use was in the first Matrix Movie”…I don`t like Don Davis as a composer but the works with Juno Reactor sound really great [especially the Matrix reloaded version of KOMIT]…Danny Elfman used some awesome electronic stuff in POTA main titles too, don`t you think…..

GuestI’m not a big fan of techno. I like the integration of electronics into an orchestral score, like POTA and especially Armageddon. I didn’t like the techno Don Davis used in the Matrix movies and in the Animatrix. I preferred his orchestra, like in scenes when a ship is travelling or the super-fantastic track “Neodammerung” in Revolutions. I’d prefer if techno was mildly integrated with orchestral rather than all-out techno.

GuestThe score to” Swordfish” is wonderful! Christopher Young with Oakenfold – the score was only produced as a promo, but it is worth it if you can find it.
I guess you can see using techno in a score from today, the same way as using disco elements in the 70’s. The films from today using techno will sound much more dated in the future than the purely orchestral score. But, sometimes I love listening to my copy of “For You Eyes Only” (Bill Conti in full Disco mode).
Music is music after all.

GuestI see that most of you are not fond of scores with techno elements
Well I must say I approve them & I think that Juno Reactor Fluke Orbital could be very good element to Elfman`s scores in the future:)May 9, 2004 at 7:31 am #50051Anonymous
GuestTo prove my words I offer you a little sample:

GuestThat sounds great, HIlinger – infact, I even think it would just about manage to suit elfman quite well. But I still think that techno should be kept in context with movies… it’s sometimes overused, and a scene that needs subtle emotional nuances can be destroyed by quietly banging beats! In a scene that doesn’t really change it’s tone for a while, and is quite loud/actiony (a la – Matrix Lobby Shootout – possibly the definitive example)… THEN techno works very well, and can certainly be called “cool” !

Guest-like the thread, by the way – I was thinking of bringing up a techno thread, myself… you beat me to it! hehe

GuestI could see Elfman’s “Batman” or “Sleepy Hollow” scores going along well with The Faint’s tracks “The Conductor” and/or “Glass Danse.” (Both Faint tracks hail from the “Danse Macabre” album that came out a few years ago). I’ve plugged the group a few times before, and of course I”ve gotta put in one more free promo for pals involved with the Saddle Creek label. However, I do think that their brand of dark synthpop will appeal to Elfman fans
I certainly enjoy the group, as well as their live shows.-E (finally, Nebraska has something to export other than corn and those who husk it…)

GuestWhenever I say I’m for or oppossed to any kind of music, I either find an exception that knocks my socks off or makes me weep in disgrace. So, I’m for any kind of music–so long as it fits with the movie and enhances the experience. (For the most part, though, I don’t care for techno. And I really don’t care for that “music inspired by” stuff).

GuestI love it more when Elfman works with rock than with techno(like the oakenfold **** and all), I mean of course Elfman was already hardcore as a rocker with Boingo, but his stuff as a composer like To Die For, Novacaine and Freeway are really awsome, especially the schizo sound of the To Die For Main Titles, going from traditional Elfman style choir’s to this hardcore punk/metal rampage. And then his melodic and acoustic rock stuff is amazing too like in Good Will Hunting and Anywhere But Here. It’s awsome that he and Bartek and all can still rock out in his scores even tho Boingo isnt around. However Elfman does do cool techno stuff, like in the POTA main titles, that one techno part to me was better than the oakenfold remix.
