I’m sure this has been asked before, but does anyone know what Danny’s working with equipment-wise? I’m pretty sure he uses Digital Performer, but I also heard that he has a huge library of sounds. Does he sample his own, or does he have a huge collection of orchestral samples that he programs. Also, does he edit the electronic aspects of his scores, or does he have a guy for that? I’m sure there’s an interview out there somewhere, just curious. Oh…. and how cool is it that on Big Top Pee Wee he got to use an actual Calliope? And on Batman a musical Saw. Bad ass…

I’m pretty sure he talks some about that during the commentary on Planet of the Apes.

He samples his own stuff (percussion, I’m sure of), and he probably has all the great sample libraries out there. I know he’s got the East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra library, and he’s probably got the Vienna Symphonic Library also. I wonder why, with all these great toys at his disposal, his mockups for Corpse Bride sound like he used outdated soundfonts … maybe because they’re easier to use? I don’t know. I’ve noticed the sound libraries these days have become really bloated (the new Vienna is over 660 GIGS of samples!!!)

crazy, man… where did you hear the mockups for corpse bride (I haven’t picked up the DVD yet)? The NMBC mock-ups aren’t bad, especially the woodwinds. not bad at all….

They were on the Corpse Bride music page before they recorded it with an orchestra. I don’t know if you can find them now.

You know, i just bought the batman returns video with a long interview with danny and during the course of the interview he shows a synth mock up for a part in the movie……..very impressive and realistic. He has got some very nice sampled sounds or synths. if i didnt know, i would have thought it was live.
