GuestYeah, Nightbreed is actually one of my faves.

GuestHas anyone actually seen Nightbreed? It’s a horrible movie.
It’s one of my favorite Elfman scores but the movie is one of the worst I have ever seen. I don’t understand how he saw that movie and composed that masterpiece of a score.

GuestNIGHTBREED actually has a great story behind it’s troubled production. The film went through extensive reshoots and was cut considerably in the editing room.
There is one definite reason why Elfman did the film, and that is Clive Barker. If you look at the films Elfman has done, a lot of them are for directors who have made stunning genre films, and no doubt Elfman knew who Barker was both from his novels and HELLRAISER.
Actually, the budget for NIGHTBREED was so tight, Elfman was only going to write a main title/main theme for the film, with another composer to write the rest of the score. Elfman instead wrote the entire thing!
There is a good movie somewhere in NIGHTBREED, it has some very important themes of good and evil, tolerance and beauty. Unfortunately no one at Morgan Creek/Fox are interested in letting Barker go back and retore cut scenes, etc.

GuestYou may be right, Ryan. Altough Nightbreed is an awful movie, I did get the sense that there could have been a good story there, if it had been done properly.
I’ve never read the book, but I think Nightbreed might be one of those cases where a good books is turned into a horrible movie.

Guest“CABAL”, the 200 page story Nightbreed was based on, is a fine example of a good book turned into a bad movie.
I love Clive Barker! Can understand why Danny did this film. If I was a composer who saw HELLRAISER, I would have begged on my hands and knees to work with Barker.

GuestIndeed–I’d thoroughly recommend reading Cabal! That way, you can mentally insert all your own images and such.
(The plot behind the movie is brilliant–I’m all for the feaks and monsters and such being the real victims and all….there’s a couple of books out there hinting at backstories and such–and there was also a little one-shot comic book deal once upon a time).
The movie is cheesy, and yet I cannot look away….gotta love that Narcisse! (Darkman doesn’t need defendin’–it’s snazzy just the way it is)!

GuestLast year I put myself on a waiting list at Amazon.com for Darkman. I was third in line, (so to speak). Soon after, about three weeks after I tried ordering it, it came to my house. I didn’t even recall paying for it.
