GuestHas anyone else heard Elfman’s main melody in the main titles of the Darkman score square in the middle of Star Wars Episode II, which is supposed to be an original score by John Williams? It is the exact same, I’m surprised Danny hasn’t sued Williams. I would. I was distracted watching the movie (for many reasons); I kept hearing Darkman.

Guestyeah…i can see the resemblance…but everybody copies a bit of a theme or motif at SOME point…that’s why they make sure they make the MAIN theme original, so when they’re bridging they don’t get caught so bad with accidental coincidences….but yeah, it DOES sound similar.

GuestI noticed it too when I was reviewing the soundtrack for Cinemusic. But I never mentioned it in my review for fear of bodily harm.

GuestIt’s just the four note motive in Nightbreed, but in the Episode 2 score it’s actually a full melody with a call and response when played out in full.

GuestYes, I noticed that. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it was distracting! I don’t think it was intentional, and I don’t think Elfman should sue Williams. That’s just silly. lol!
Going a little off the subject, but I went to see the In-Laws at the drive-in with my mom and sister (GAWD awful movie, don’t see it if you havn’t yet). At the end, it plays the theme from Good Will Hunting! I couldn’t believe it!

I do mean Episode II — where at? I’m starting to get worried about my listening abilities.

GuestI always thought the Darkman theme was a great homage to Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky (esp. “Battle on the Ice”)

Guestthe Darkman man theme is a variation on a motif from Prokofiev’s “battle on the ice” cue from Alexander Nevsky.
