Guesti read that, too, that they’re is planned a project to compose an Edward scissorhands ballet.but i also dont know anything more. An Elfman-symphony would be great, though it is too old-fashioned……but it would be very interesting….
yes…maybe one dayFarewell

GuestOh no, I’m not a musician…yet. I’m trying to learn though. I’ve always had a passion for music, especially Elfman’s music. What I mean was that Danny inspires me through his music as well as how he’s lived his life and the way he sees the world. He’s an amazing talent and an amazing person…at least to me.
But since I’m hoping to become a musician perhaps being inspired by him as one can still apply. So you’re a composer Damian? How long have you been writing music? Do you plan to be a composer professionally? When did you first discover Elfman’s work? You must have been rather young. I think it’s wonderful that you have such an appreciation for classical music and film scores at 15. It seems most people at that age only care about the rock songs that they put in films now, not the film scores. It’s really sad.

GuestHI!
I’ve been writing music since i’m 10, i think. But the beginning is always very hard. Now I laugh about the things i wrote that time. I’d like to be a professional composer, and i think I’m gonna try it. Ive still got 5 years to think over it and to improve. maybe I will study at a filmacedemy(sound design and filmmusic) after the main-composition-studies….but who knows if this works? this all has got a great risk.
I discovered Elfman’s work first by watching Men in Black( then i realized that the simpsons theme is composed by him, too)….
What kind of musician do want to become? what are you actually doing?how old are you? not very old, i think?
How does Elfman see the world?did you ever contact him?is there a posibility of contacting him?bye

GuestIt’s okay, I had just gone to see a friend for a few days, so It took me a while to reply.
I’m trying to teach myself guitar at the moment. I wanted to take lessons at college but my schedule conflicted, so hopefully in the future I can. I’m doing fine on my own I think, I’ve learned a little bit (emphasis on little), and I’m sure I’ll improve over time. There’s a lot that I’d like to do, so I’m a little unsure about a particular goal.
I’m 21, and I’ll be 22 in January. I’m not very old, except maybe to a 5-year-old.

How does Elfman see the world? Dear God, there’s a ton to be said there. I’m afraid it would take me to long to type. I will give you some links though.

Some articles may be the same on the different sites, so if something looks too familiar you can probably skip it. I wish I had time to put down more for you, but it’s probably more interesting to read the full articles anyway.
I haven’t ever tried to contact Elfman. I’m far, far too shy.
I hope you enjoy your traveling, sorry that I took so long to reply.

Guesthi hi hi!
I’m back. thanks, red raven, for the adresses! ive not yet tried them but i will do.
my “traveling” was fine (it wasnt really a traveling, it was the “meeting of young composers”….very funny….. i made them hearing “sleepy hollow” and they were as astonished as i was when i was said that mr elfman was an autodidacte….)
can you explain what “but my schedule conflicted” means? i cant translate that!….
I’m just teaching myself the piano….and it works, too….
ciao!
DamianAugust 18, 2003 at 4:29 am #46228Anonymous
GuestSorry about the translation. I meant that I couldn’t take a guitar class in college because I had already scheduled another class for the same time and on the same day that the guitar class would take place.
That’s great you’re learning piano. I’d love to learn to play the piano someday, but one thing at a time. Are you completely self-taught, or have you taken lessons (not including piano, of course)? Have you learned any musical pieces yet?
August 18, 2003 at 3:48 pm #46237Anonymous
Guestno….ive never had a piano lesson….i play the music from “le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain” very often and the music from “the Piano”….but i think im gonna play some “classic classics”, you know, like mozart and so on. Actually i improvise(do you call it like this?) and compose more often on the piano.
i did not really get what you meant with “not including the piano”.maybe ive told something you didnt really wanna know.
If you wanna compose good stuff and develope a fine feeling and a quick view for “harmonielehre”(how do you call it?)you should better try the piano, i think. but…maybe it also does work on the guitar….ive never tried….
youre 21. you were on college….or are you still there?what are you doin at the moment…..university?…..hangin around?……job?August 18, 2003 at 11:26 pm #46242Anonymous
GuestBerlioz was a guitar player who never learned to play the piano and that didn’t stop him from being a Great Composer. Bruckner and Ives didn’t start composing until they were older gentlemen.
There is no “one way” or “right way” to become a composer.

Guestnat, youre absolutely right!
ive never said that there is only one way! maybe (and you showed that it does) it really works on the guitar….i should have better said that for me it would be strange…
here in germany do you have to play the piano rather good to be taken at the university (subject composition, of course)…..you could be the most gifted guy of the world…if you cant play the piano you’ll fail…..and thats my problem…..
Ives…..ive heared just one piece…very strange….for his time…..if i didnt know i would have said he was an avantgarde-composer…..
bye!

Guestred raven:
You’re right; it is sad. I am 15 as well, and am an avid fan of Elfman’s work, though I haven’t been able to listen to as many of his scores as I would like to. I have never really liked the rock songs and rap that so many other teens like, so I suppose I am in a minority in a way..*smiles* Not bad at all, though.
Danny Elfman IS the best!
Cheers,
