GuestThe short answer is no, although he said once that a lot of the music he wrote for ANYWHERE BUT HERE flat out did not make it into the movie, having been replaced by pop songs, etc. He said he even considered taking his name off the picture! Elfman did not write a lot of music for the film anyway, and it’d be interesting to see how much music actually _is_ in there. Not so interesting, however, that I’d consider – even for a fraction of a second – watching it!
A CIVIL ACTION was heavily reedited (and therefore had to be partially rescored) at the last minute, but that didn’t have anything to do with the quality of the music Elfman wrote originally. His main theme “Civil Theme” wasn’t used in the movie and made, I think, the score really hard to follow in the picture. Dropping cues here and there is pretty standard in any movie scoring process, but that was a pretty major one to lose.
