ParticipantHello Danny,
I really think you should reconsider scoring Spider-Man 3. Spidey 3 represents yet another opportunity to expand on it’s already indellible blend of masterful storytelling and musical emotion. With every new villain comes a variation of the original score as well as new material to advance the storytelling! Please don’t do to this franchise what you did with the 90s ‘Batman’ franchise. Just to let you know, ‘Batman Forever’ was a good movie, but it lacked that emotional, powerful decibel raising mystique that made the first two ‘Batman’ films what they were!! It just wasn’t the same!! Spidey needs you and only YOU can bring this comic book adaptation to life with your masterful scoring!!!

ParticipantIf Ryan’s serious about this, then…
Danny,
Your first Spider-Man score got me interested in your music and film music in general, and up to last summer when Spider-Man 2 came out, it was my favorite of your scores. I really believe that they are among the finest scores ever. The music is heroic and emotionally stirring and I can’t imagine any more appropriate music for one of the most favored superheroes in existence. In “Spidey Suite,” you left a few heroic notes at the end that hinted that you would return once again, and we all hope that you do. It is also hoped that you and Sam Raimi and Sony solve whatever disputes you all have been going through, because your relationships with the director and studio have resulted in fantastic work. Please compose the score for Spider-Man 3, because there is no other who can write the score better than you.

ParticipantI thought movies were dead until the opening credits came on with the slow build up and then the strong beautiful theme. and the boingo esq sounds in costume montage and the whole score. Spider man 2 whent further mixed with the alex ross artwork I really got moved again, 3 will not be the same without .

ParticipantWait, since when was Elfman not doing Spider-man 3?
Well, and I will get stoned for this:
Mr. Elfman,
If you have decided to bail on this third film, I say more power to you. I would do exactly the same thing if something I had worked so hard on (knowing how it is with action films) got chopped up and rehashed. You can do better, and considering you are one of the most highly regarded composers in the field today, you don’t deserve that kind of treatment. I look forward to whatever you choose to do next.Side Note: You people do realize that he never reads this board right? And hey, someone had to say it.

Says who?
His brother has read this website in the past, and I’m sure as hell he’s told him about it.

ParticipantI was filled with shock when I learned that Mr. Elfman would not be returning to the Spider-man franchise. I had originally become interested and aware of his music when he scored Men In Black. Thousands of possibilities surged through my mind of what the music for Spider-man would sound like. Would it be a variation of the original 60’s theme song? Would it remotely sound like the melody from the 90’s animated series? I was full of anticipation for this movie which I was sure to be a success.
The lights dimmed, and the columbia pictures logo came up. High strung violins could be heard in the background. Then the marvel logo came up. Ba no ba no ba na Ba no ba no bana beeno bano. Then the webs and the added vocals. More instruments joined in and the the word SPIDER-MAN cane spinning in. The sheer precision and emotion of the music was inspiring. I immediately bought the movie score when it came out, and to this day it still hasn’t let me down.
I was a little dissapointed with the ommision of the Up the wall music, but the rest of the CD more than made up for that. I also missed the Pizza delivery music, late for school, and skidding on your back through traffic.
In order for me to listen to these tracks with the rest of the score, I had to pull them off the DVD using Sound Recorder and convert them to stereo files to burn a CD for myself only. The pulsing and vivacity of the music inspires me in a way that no pharmacuetical drug can; it enriches my mind and allows me to freely express myself through art.
Danny, if you or anyone close to you reads this, I appreciate the work you have done and will do, and will purchase every album you come out with from here on.
You will be missed.

Participant… I guess I’m just not as attached to the Spiderman scores as most here seem to be.

ParticipantDanny,
I have started to want to compose and really get serious about learning because of your first spiderman score. I would have never gotten into the music at all if it weren’t for you. Spiderman 1 was just so great that I have listened to it over 200 times over the coarse of 4 yrs. Hopefully you and Raimi will be able to figure something out as u are the one that makes spiderman brillant and unique. I really admire you and your music greatly but turning down spiderman 3 would be a huge mistake since it has really lately defined you and your image. Without your wonderful music in the third movie it will be quite different and a lot worse. It is up to you to likely finish this series correctly but I know that you should just compose again. hopefully you can,
