GuestEver have one of those weeks where you feel like you must be doing something really, really right and are enjoying the effects of karma?? I am so having one of those weeks. Things are realy going my way, and today totally kicked butt because among other things, I went to Blockbuster and on a whim checked their DVD section knowing that there was no chance in hell I’d ever find the Ed Wood DVD . . . but there it was in all its glorious black and white and pinkness. I bought it of course and so far I’m slightly giddy with joy. I just watched the music video and while I adore Howard Shore’s score for the film, I’m wondering what the hell that video was. The menus are lots of fun, and right now I’m watching the Johnny Depp hosted featurette which is cracking me up beyond words.
Anyway, to get to my point . . . check out your local video stores for this DVD because ya just never know!!!!

GuestFunny, the DVD was recalled after it was shipped to retailers. I don’t think Blockbuster has the OK to sell it!

GuestI bought mine at the local FYE. I used to work there and knew they wern’t organized enough to realize it had been recalled. It all depends on whether management is on the ball or not. Check around and you might be suprised.

Guestwhats the big fuss about it
? how come they didnt relesase it in america. y dont we have deleted scenes. the music video is really messed upApril 10, 2004 at 1:29 pm #49457Anonymous
GuestIt’s because Ed Wood didn’t do as well at the box office in America as it did in Europe, so maybe they feel it’s a bit of a gamble.

GuestYeah, I also feel pretty certain that Blockbuster didn’t have the authority to sell it, which is why the cashier I picked was a teenager who probably wouldn’t have had a clue (just to be on the safe side) and didn’t mention my surprise that they had it
And believe me, I scoured that Blockbuster just after the recall so I know that this DVD materialized there pretty recently.I still haven’t checked out all the features, but the deleted scenes were cool. Mostly they were just extended scenes, but there was a fun one of Ed at Tor Johnson’s house for dinner, which included Tor’s wife stating that she didn’t approve of Ed turning Tor into a monster.

GuestHere is an official response from Buena Vista’s PR representative:
“We still do not have a release date for “Ed Wood.” And the info about certain stores having it for sale is incorrect. ALL stores have been notified of the date change and the product will not be placed on shelves. Some stores had long-lead ads that went out and were not able to change the “Ed Wood” placement, but they will not be on sale today.”
The rep went on to say that if some stores did get the product and they are selling it, they are doing so against the wishes of BV, and there might be cause for legal action on BV’s part against such stores.

GuestInteresting. I count myself pretty dang lucky that I got it then . . .
By the way, has anyone found out WHY this lovely DVD was recalled in the first place?

GuestI paid $50 for mine off Ebay – it was worth it though – it is a great Film and the extras are great – Wouldn’t have paid more than I did and there were quite a few bastards on there selling them right after the recall for up to $120!
Look around on Ebay and half.com and you will find them – Does the European version have Shore’s Isolated Score? It is a great score BTW and the one that got me into Shore – I love Elfman’s music obviously quite a bit but am happy that we have Howard Shore’s great score for that film. While Elfman would have done a great job, am sure it would have been taken in a different directionApril 16, 2004 at 4:21 am #49528Anonymous
GuestWait a second…the recalled DVD has an isolated score?

GuestNot the US one but thought I read someplace that the PAL version did – Was just curious – Tim was generous with the soundtrack and quite a bit of the score is on that and am happy with that
