GuestHey there, new to the board here. For those of us who don’t happen to know how to get in top writing music for film & TV, does anyone know of any schools or apprentice type programs? I realise that danny had no formal training, but perhaps he would know the best way to break into the biz
thanks spiderfans!

GuestThere is no one way to break into film scoring. The basics are to understand film drama, have some musical knowledge, and score small movies to develop relationships with filmmakers. The last point is the most important — composers need to attach themselves to up and coming directors.

GuestHey, thanks Ryan…I kind of figured as such. I’ve got about 10 years of orchestration under my belt and was hoping there was some kind of place that put composers with filmakers….I’ve seen a few classes olnline. Anyways, I appreciate your response.

GuestCheck out the extension program at UCLA. I’ve heard they have a great program designed just for film scoring.

GuestHopefully you know, Mr………Master Elfman did have a musical background before weaving together those oh-so-perfect movie scores. Lest we forget, the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. That’s where the soundtracks started. The Forbidden Zone. Great stuff!! I loved every drop of it back in the day!
