Guestit’s interesting… i’ve noticed a certain trend of backlash towards Elfman scoring
another super-hero film… probably in no small part due to the fact that
pretty much everybody thought Mychael Danna was an interesting choice
for the job. i dunno, i was as curious as the next person to
hear Danna’s take on The Hulk… but, i’m certainly am very excited
to hear Elfman is the chosen replacement.Well, film score fans in general are nit-picky and annoying (present company
excluded)
but, i think it’s funny… because i can remember not too long ago…everybody
talking about his score to Batman, and why couldn’t he write another score like
THAT…. then he’s scores Spiderman and i kept hearing about how much it
was too similar to Batman, and why couldn’t he try something new
for a super-hero movie… ah, well.I have a feeling that The Hulk will be very interesting indeed – Ang Lee is
a fantastic director for him to be paired with- actually, the idea of Elfman scoring an Ang Lee film is appeals to me more then the fact that it’s The Hulk…
Elfman has already said he’s not really interested in scoring action-films
anymore… i bet the fact that Ang Lee (or, Sam Raimi for that matter)
is involved is a big part of why he accepted this one…anyways, just a few rambled thoughts…

GuestYes… those people in FSM board bashing Elfman before hearing the Hulk score… that really annoys me…

GuestActually, I’m pretty much for anything Danny’s working on. I mean, if the guy is gonna take the time to score it and all, I’m at least gonna take the time to listen to it and such, you dig?
(And, probably–more likely than not–buy it, and listen to it over and over and over again–until my ears bleed and all)….I thought the Spider-man score was saucy!

GuestI know personally I’m not looking forward to it because of the style I’m expecting from it. I know nothing about comic books but judging from the preview I saw of it eons ago in front of Spider-Man, and the fact that it’s called The *HULK* and also because I’m not entirely sure that Elfman is over his low brass and sampled percussion phase (a la POTA and Spider-Man), that’s what I think we’re gonna get. Boring. Bring on the low brass wailage (I don’t even care if it sounds “heroic”), I just want something stylistically far, far away from POTA or Spider-Man which to me are almost the same score.

GuestMan, it’s funny how people state thier opinions like everyone in the world agrees with them. No offence.
Knight (And again, there has not been one Elfman score that I haven’t liked, and I am positive that this isn’t going to change anytime soon)

GuestHuh. I thought Planet of the Apes was very different from Spider-man! But, it could just be me and my musically impared belief that apes sound different than spiders….

Guesti think every composer has there own sound, danny’s is very destinct and is easy to pick out from most…he’s brillant and does music that i could only dream about creating, i mean come on people he’s self-taught!! Not many people can say…and like all composer’s he get’s into his ruts also…(i mean listen to williams score for harry potter, it sounds like the movie Hook…it really does)
so for people to critisize him is horrible, music is an artform, and not all of it will be a masterpiece but it will always be something interesting….

GuestYou forgot one thing: What sounds like sh*t to you could sound like the best music in the world to someone else. As an artform, music is going to affect some people differently than others.
Knight (How many times am I going to have to say this?!?)

Guesti agree with you fully, it’s always going to effect people in different ways. That’s what i love about music in general, is that even if you don’t like something at least it impacted you in some way..good or bad..not many mediums can do the same…well for me at least….
