ParticipantDissapointed to say the least. My heart sunk a little bit when I heard it directly from the horses mouth. *Ouch*

Oh well.

ParticipantLol, you can tell by his face that he really doesn’t want to talk about it. Well, I’m bit disappointed myself but I perfectly understand how he feels…

ParticipantWow, that was harsh. It must’ve been really ugly what went down between Danny and Raimi [or Sony?] for him to say “I could care less.”
Oh well, I hope at least they keep his themes.

ParticipantWell, there you have it I guess. And yet, as dire as that sounded, SM3 hasn’t even started filming, there’s not even a finished script. Things can still change, its possible.
Even if it doesn’t change, if form holds true, Danny will still be scoring most of SM3 because they will be taking his cues from SM1 and SM2 and using them as placeholders at which point the music from the new composer (Young?) will get tossed in favor of the old cues………8P

ParticipantHarsh, Danny. Harsh. I really wish he were doing Spider-Man 3 rather than Charlotte’s Web. It doesn’t seem to be a very promising movie. I’m expecting to see just another “Racing Stripes” kind of deal. Harsh.

I’ve been thinking the exact same thing for some time now, Spider-Fan.
Does anyone know if it will be a traditional animated film or a CGI one?

ParticipantI, for one, am perfectly fine that he’s not doing SPIDER-MAN 3 and in fact think it’s cool for him to walk away after some of the bulls*** that happened on the last picture. I think it shows a lot of integrity that rarely shows its face in the movie business!
The thing I’ve been thinking about while listening to CHARLIE over the last few days is how great it is to hear him doing a movie like this where the music _matters_. That’s not to say that the music isn’t important in a big action flick like SPIDER-MAN, but much of the time it’s reduced to being a tension track: musical wallpaper that’s largely covered up by the sound design anyway. My favorite film music (by Elfman or anyone else) has always been highly melodic and theme based. High-adrenaline action scores are fine, but music that has to play it more subtle has always been more interesting to me.
Elfman has three kiddie movies on his slate after CHARLIE, and as far as I’m concerned, that’s fabulous. It will give him the opportunity to write a bunch of new songs as well as some really imaginative fantasy music.

ParticipantI’m happy he’s doing Charlottes Web and not Spiderman. Just have my fingers crossed that Charlottes Web turns out to sound like Black Beauty or Sommersby.

ParticipantI was just going to post the same thing, John. All well said.

Participant– SM3 hasn’t even started filming, there’s not even a finished script –
Exactly. Which is why he most definately will not score it, even if he will be asked to (which he won’t).
He wouldn’t make such a definate statement and say he couldn’t care less about who ever scores it that early if he kept his options open.
Probably too much bitterness involved. But so be it, I’d rather have an original Elfman score for anything else rather then a butchered mixture stuck somewhere between Temp-Track and re-scoring.July 12, 2005 at 1:09 am #54468TheLastSlasherStanding
ParticipantLook I’m pissed that hes not scoring Spider-Man 3. The third chapter of a trilogy usually tends to have the best score of the whole series, if still scored by the same composer. “Harry Potter”, “Lord of the Rings”, “The Matrix”.
When composers change, we get “Batman Forever”. Good in its own overblown way, but not Elfman at all.

ParticipantYeah, well! What are ya gonna do? It was horrible whta they did to the Spiderman 2 score and it must have been something to make him feel that way. I live in Hollywood but i didnt know that the Premiere was yesterday. For some odd reason i thought it was gonna be on wednesday! I was in a different part of the city! Oh well. Its nice to see an interview thats not with a Hollywood star, that shows people actually caring about the composer for a change! That treats the composer like the actual star, ya know!

ParticipantI wonder why John Williams didn’t do the same thing to Lucas regarding Revenge of the Sith after the hackjob they did with his AOTC score.

ParticipantWell anyway, this news (as hard as it is to swallow…. I’ve been in denile for months…) comes on the heels of a great day! Tommorow I will be listening to Chocolate Factory all the way through. This bad news couldn’tve come at a better time.
Thanks for small mercies!

ParticipantYes! Tomorrow we will all be in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory score heaven! Only a couple of more hours away! i am so happy! And think! In only a couple of more months we get another score from Elfman! This is a good year for us fans!

The continuity between the first two movies has been one of the biggest reasons for their success. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and other cast members are only signed for 3 movies. I am sure they will get offered a ton of cash to do a fourth or fifth film (at least Maguire). The series has a potential to fall WAY off with cast and director changes as it may go in an entirely different direction. I’m sure SM3 will be a good movie and a big success but definitely there will be a somewhat hollow feeling for us Elfman fans………
That being said, if you are a big fan of the emotional Elfman, I am sure that Charlotte’s Web will be brilliant. Sommersby is simply amazing beginning to end if you like that style of Elfman, I got a copy off eBay a few weeks ago and I cannot stop listening to it, it haunts me… I am still looking for Black Beauty. It always shoots up over $50 on eBay. Damn I want to listen to it but I just cannot drop fifty or sixty bucks on a CD right now.
