GuestHey everyone- I don’t know if anyone here knows this yet or not, but I work at Disneyland and in our new Cast member reference guide, there is a little description for the Haunted Mansion Holiday (which is the Haunted Mansion turned into a Nightmare Before Christmas theme). Anyways, it says that Danny Elfman will be composing a score exclusively for the attraction! I can’t wait for it to open and get on that ride!! I’m a bit of a NBC fanatic.

GuestWasn’t this suppose to happen a couple of years ago? Need more Input. Also, if it does come to fruition, I hope Disney sees fit to put it on a compilation CD, like they did with the piece that Broughton and Goldsmith wrote for the California theme park.

GuestHmmmm . . . if everything goes as planned, in one year I will move to LA for the next two years (at least), and I’m just REALLY looking forward to living right next to Disneyland. I never ever thought I would see a NBC ride . . . I was blown away when I heard the news last year.

GuestDisneyland has little booths that you can visit that has a touch screen display of all music found throughout the park. You select the music you want from the attraction or land, and by the end of the day you can pick up a personal burned CD of the music you selected. So the idea of a Disneyland composition CD isn’t a new idea, nor is it a bad one (as sales have shown). However, the music from the NmBC themed Mansion from Mr. Elfman will *not* be available on CD this year. Though there’s a strong chance that it will be on CD sometime next year – most likely coinciding with the 3rd anniversary of the Haunted Mansion Holiday and the 10th anniversary of NmBC.

Guestmatch_girl:
Theme park compilation cds are actually quite popular and can really contain some great cues on them! Seriously, there is some great orchestral music floating around in theme parks and their rides! Film music fans really should try some of it (John Debney’s orchestral and choral version of ‘Grim Grinning Ghosts’ in ‘Phantom Manor’ in Disneyland Paris comes to mind as an excellent example). Other theme parks have been taking Disney’s example, as well, and, last time I checked, Universal Studios was offering a CD of ride-music as well.Grim Grinning Ghost:
Funny you should mention that “as sales have shown” when referring to the now defunct “Disneyland Forever” CD system which was completely removed from the park earlier this year. These personalized compilation CDs are no longer available in ANY of the Disney parks at the present moment.September 25, 2002 at 2:02 pm #42273Anonymous
Guestwell, i have NOTICED the music at Disneyland. in fact, i don’t think there’s anything scarier than that song they play on splash mountain right before “zipity doo da” when they are all singing [in their various annoying octaves] that the rabbit’s dead and that no one should go outisde or they’ll all die too. haven’t been on that ride since. however, i rather like the haunted mansion tunes. rather old fashioned.. almost decayed [ignore that please] music. it’s like a place where halloween doesn’t go out of style, like my room.
lexi: but still, i’ll have to listen more at these theme parks, because i hear nothing i want.
p.s. i forgot to mention the hillbilly’s banjo tunes at the beginng of “pirate of the carribean”!

GuestI haven’t been to Disneyland since, well, since I’ve had kids, ironically enough.
Is there going to be a NmBC theme this year at the haunted mansion? I know I missed it a couple years ago, are they doing it again?September 25, 2002 at 10:54 pm #42280Anonymous
GuestMan, the closest theme/amusement park near me is Worlds of Fun in Kansas City…that’s gone really downhill in the last 15 years or so. You people that live near large-scale theme parks are lucky; really. There was a really odd “Hanna-Barbera” (sp?) cartoon theme park in Australia that I visited…it was really different…they had a big fenced-in circle of sand and called it the “Action Arena.” Since there weren’t any actual rides in the circle and just…sand…I always wondered exactly what they meant by the name. (It was like a “make your own fun” display at a park where you pay to be entertained – ha!) Trust me, we came up with some interesting scenarios for that one. *grins* There was also a wooden rollercoaster called the “Bush Beast”…I didn’t ask about that one (oh, the places you could go with THAT name…). What I wouldn’t give to go on a NMBC ride…

GuestThe closest theme/amusement park near me is “Liberty Land” in Memphis, TN where all the rides have an Americana tinge. The big rollercoaster is called The Revolution and is one of the best things there (although it dosen’t last long). I haven’t been in a while, but it does contain Elvis’ favorite ride, the wooden rollercoaster called the Zippin Pippin that looks and sounds like it is going to fall at any moment.
I’ve never been to Disneyland, but I used to enjoy our family trips to Disneyworld, Epcot Center, Universal, and Disney/MGM Studios (which I loved because I always wanted to be an imagineer at Disney, or an animator).
As for the music, and don’t stone me, I’ve liked all the John Williams music in the Indiana Jones Ride and Stunt Spacktacular, and also Star Tours. It was also nice seeing a life-sized Ewok Village!

Nat (who’s favorite coaster is the Screamin’ Eagle at Six Flags in St. Louis)

Guestfor me, disneyland is a stunning 3 hour freeway drive away. I’ve been there 3 times, also. universal.. it’s right there in l.a. so an hour and a half. i’ve been there two times when i was young and all i can remember is the e.t. ride (sigh.) and the trolly girl’s husband getting eaten by a shark. i don’t know where six flags is, but it never takes long to get there.. i’ve been there twice.. they have a revolution there also..
lexi: but anyways, danny elfman..

GuestFrom Mouseplanet.com:
“This year’s Nightmare Haunted Mansion will feature a new score adapted from Danny’s songs from Nightmare Before Christmas. It was recently recorded by John Debney, who has previously adapted Elfman’s themes on film scores such as Spy Kids.”
So it’s Debney who will be scoring, not Elfman.
