Thu Dec 11, 7:00 PM ETPat Saperstein
(Variety) The Palm Springs Film Fest has selected Jim Sheridan to receive its Intl. Filmmaker Award for producing and directing. Danny Elfman (news) will be honored with the Frederick Loewe Award for career achievement in film composing.
The awards will be presented at the fest’s awards gala Jan. 11 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Also to be honored are Kevin Costner (news), Anthony Minghella (news) and Richard D. Zanuck.
“Jim Sheridan is a writer, director and producer who has been embraced by international audiences for his ability to tell unique, personal and uplifting stories through film,” said Earl Greenburg, chairman elect of the fest.
“Danny Elfman’s music doesn’t just accentuate and complete a scene, but elevates it to a new artistic high,” he added.
Fest runs Jan. 8-19, screening more than 200 films from 60 countries, including most of the foreign-language Oscar contenders.
