GuestIn my opinion, there are two Batman ‘brands’, if you like. The Elfman brand (dark, disturbing, tragic); and the Goldenthal brand (outrageous, funny, wacky). In my opinion, they are both great. I love the batman films up to the third (the fourth was a disgrace). Now, which score do you prefer? Elfman or Goldenthal? I have a bit of a confession to make… I prefer Goldenthal’s. AAH! Yeah, except for those cheesy references to the original series – that makes for real corny music. I love the extravegance of Goldenthal’s score. Whaddya think?

GuestNOOOOOO! TRAITOR!!
hehe…just kidding.
I think I prefer Elfman’s, but I know what you mean. I find myself getting into the “Batman and Robin theme”. It makes me sad, though, because as we all know, Elfman’s style has changed over the years, and we will never hear what a Batman score by Elfman would sound like now.

GuestNot a bad theme on Goldenthal’s, but it’s not consistent. I love the consistent, well-formed theme in Elfman’s score. It also has more majestic points throughout, such as then finale in the first Batman.

That makes it three Batman ‘brands’ :oP>>we will never hear what a Batman score by Elfman would sound like now<<
Unless he gets to score a new Batman movie?Goldenthal and Elfman were and are very good composers with distinctive styles that somehow penetrate through film music’s chameleon urge. Two composers. One winner. Batman. After 1989 the franchise (and superhero movies in general) was changed forever. :o)

GuestThanks ever so much for your extremely helpful corrections, Ian (grr). Though, I do agree – and especially now – everyone’s gone CRAZY with superhero movies!
Again, I also agree with Spider-Fan’s point – Elfman’s far more majestic. However, his score doesn’t excite me like Goldenthal’s does – I get all worked up when I hear those amazing tritones!

GuestNow if you’d answered http://elfman.filmmusic.com/forum/read.php?f=7&i=11988&t=11988 I’d have been able to berrate a fan your age for expressing sweaty attraction for tritones. Don’t you realise that’s only discussed on special X-rated music message boards? Shame on you! ;o)
