GuestSorry, cos this is a tiny bit off-topic, but I was just reading some Bill Evans chord charts, and I heard in my head some EXACT same sequences as in the Hours soundtrack. I then realised that a lot of Glass’ music sounds like that (not just the arpeggios, I mean the actual chords! hehe). Then I realised that a huge amount of film music, even with its romantic sound, often contains a pretty hefty amount of jazz’ness’.
Can anyone else think of some Jazzy influences they’ve stumbled across in any film music? (Especially subtle ones – unlike something like Catch Me if You Can)

GuestInteresting that you mention Catch Me if You Can because John Williams doesn’t even consider that a Jazz score since everything in it (including the solo Sax parts) are all written out. A Jazz chord is nothing but a chord, do you think when Wagner wrote the Tristan chord that he thought “Hey Man, that’s a really hip Jazz chord Daddy-O” (supposed to be spoken in your best Peter Schikele hep-cat voice).
Thank you mister Schikele.

GuestI’ve noticed a lot of the music of Elliot Goldenthal has jazz elements.
Titus has full-out jazz cues, but Batman Forever, The Butcher Boy, and In Dreams also have jazz-like moments.
