GuestYay, it’s positive! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately, having seen the movie 4 times now and heard the entire album, andI’ve decided that this score is absolutely brilliant. He took the under-used theme for Spider-Man and turned it into some very beautiful pieces, most notably in “The Bank/Saving May” and “MJ’s New Life/Spidus Interruptus.” I’ve had the choral pieces from “Armageddon/A Really Big Web!” stuck in my head all day, like when MJ sees who Spider-Man really is and when Spidey makes his heroic exit. I’m really mad that “Aunt May Packs” and “The Goblin Returns” weren’t in the movie. The tracks excluded from the soundtrack that should have been on it include Debney’s “Special Delivery,” portions of the Train music used in the movie, and there should have been a track containing all the music from establishing shots (Peter at college, the aerial shot of NYC). Still, this score should remain a highlight of Elfman’s career.

Guesti take it the “really big web” cue is when they’re both on the really big web and he denies her for the 4th(5th?6th?Lost count) time and drops her down to be with the astronaut…am i right? Because that’s a pretty damn good piece of soul. If anybody has it, let me know…Sony is still screwing me and i’ve got ghosts bugging me about it…so to speak.
(Now that i think about it, nowadays no self-respecting woman in reality would get denied as much as MJ did and still stick around…Romantic, sure – but only in movies, man. Ah i miss the teenage years–only then would the possibility of stuff like this seemingly take place)July 28, 2004 at 7:02 am #51630Anonymous
GuestWhat I absolutlely ADORE about the spidy 2 score is that Elfman actually does make some decent VARIATIONS on his themes.
And not just changing orchestration and pitch, he changes melody, rythmics, tempi and such. He incorporates them into his action-cues much better then any other major composer lately.
I’m really impressed!
In addition he really nailed the characters for me. You never have trouble working out the characters in this movie, because Elfman’s music tells you right away.Fantastic! work.
My favorite piece is still in Train/Appreciation the part where he stops the train. This great dramatic heroic variation on the theme is so beautyfull, I can’t stand the thought that it wasn’t in the movie.
And was it just me or was he actually combining Peter Parker’s and Spiderman’s themes more together? In some variations I’m not sure from which on it was derived.
Great stuff.

GuestYes I agree, I truly enjoy listening to the Spiderman 2 cd alot. Especially the “He’s Back Track” always leaves a lump in my throat ! But I find myself enjoying the spiderman 1 cd even more(?) Maybe it’s because he included alot more directly from the film instead of altering it. What I mean is track number #10 Train /Appreciation sounds nothing like the version played in the film! I absolutley loved this piece he did! And now it will never be available to the public!
Does anyone know if it will be of will there be an extended version?
