GuestHey everyone. I just got back from an advance screening of Spider-Man 2 in Boson, so now I shall share what I’ve seen.
First of all, the movie is beautiful. The CGI is great, Doc Ock is awesome, the story is full of surprises, and it’s overall a great movie. Once you see it…if you do…you’ll probably see what I’m talking about. It’s much different from the first movie. The switch of cinematographer from Don Burgess is incredibly aparrent as you watch it. And now, the music.
Actually, I was a bit disappointed music-wise. There was definitely a lot of new music and the theme was used very well. The main titles were very similar to the first, but with illustrations recapping the last movie instead of city animations. The music in the main titles was almost the same as that of the first movie, except it had a bit of Doc Ock’s theme in there. Doc Ock’s theme was powerfully effective and Spidey’s theme was taken to many good levels. Don’t get me wrong, the new music was great. The thing that bothered me was that half the music in the movie was recycled from the music in the first movie. To me, it seemed sloppily thrown in there and it sounded as if it were mixed my someone like me. The main titles music was used twice in the actual movie. The tracks from the first, like “Alone,” “Revelation,” and “Revenge” were used throughout the movie. There was also use of the music from the fire scene of the first movie in the new fire scene in the sequel. Maybe this music that was missed on the first score soundtrack will be on the score soundtrack. I’m hoping that maybe this was because I was watching a screening and they maybe delivered an earlier cut of the movie. My last criticism is that there was no end credits music, only those dumb songs from the currently released soundtrack. I’m going to see this movie several more times, because it really is great. I hope everyone else does as well when it’s released wide.

GuestIt sounds like unfortunate studio interference with the music (replacing music written for the sequel with music from the first film). But the clips I’ve seen of Spider-Man 2 have absolutely wonderful, beautiful music. And the suites are beautiful as well. I like this music a lot more than most of the first score (which I also like, of course). Damn, well, I eagerly await more comments about the film and its score.

GuestWhy would the studio do something stupid like that?

GuestI also forgot to mention that they play a grand total of two “real” songs in the movie: “Raindrops Keep Fallin on my Head” and some other rock/pop song that was relevant to the scene but unfamiliar to me. It looks like most of the songs on the soundtrack are originals from Spider-Man 2. I think that everyone will be impressed with “Train/Appreciation” and “Armageddon/A Really Big Web!” From what I remember, “He’s Back!” was the main titles, but maybe there was more…and “Aunt May Packs” was “Revelation” from the first movie. I don’t think that he did any end credits music, because the end credits were surprisingly short and included “Vindicated,” a song by Train, and the Ramone’s version of the original Spider-Man theme song.

GuestHey, what about music of additonal composers? How it sounds?
And about electronic stuff…..Did Elfman used here more electronic stuff?June 29, 2004 at 8:08 pm #50926Anonymous
GuestI wasn’t sure about where the additional composers came it, but my guess would be the middle part of the famous train sequence, some of it sounded a bit un-Elfman. As for electronic stuff, there wasn’t too much of it. A majority of the new music was orchestral, and for good reason. The new orchestra pieces were absolutely beautiful. Remember, this movie was over 2 hours long and I was paying attention to the story and everything else as well, so I don’t remember all the music. The electronics that I heard were from the first movie, like the part in the first when Spidey is dodging the blade thingeys in the burning building, were heard in the sequel. When everyone sees it tomorrow, let me know if you hear more. I know I’ll be going for a second spin.

GuestSo, did they finally reveal the secret to that fancy spider outfit he wears all the time?

“Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on my Head” eh? That’s a big mistake.

GuestNo, believe me, the song is so funny in the movie. And, what exactly do you mean by the secret to the fancy spidey suit?
June 29, 2004 at 11:09 pm #50932Anonymous
GuestWell, they never explained how he got that fancy suit.

GuestThanks for the report, Spider-Fan.
As for the suit, ever see the MTV Movie Awards hosted by Jack Black when he spoofed SPIDEY?
Shot of Spider-Man illustration
Shot of hand writing “Not gay enough!”
Shot of Spider-Man in leather
Shot of handing writing “Just the right amount of gay!”Hilarious!!

GuestHAHA!!! That was one of their best acts ever, especially since they put the score into it. In Spider-Man 2, there’s a scene in an elevator (see tomorrow) where Spider-Man tells a passenger that he made it. It’s a really funny scene with Hal Sparks.

Guest“The thing that bothered me was that half the music in the movie was recycled from the music in the first movie.”
Aside from slight rearrangements of “Alone,” “Revelation,” and “Revenge,” I counted at least 3 tracked on cues from the first Spider-Man, like during Aunt May’s moving sequence and the aftermath of the train sequence.

GuestSaw it for the third time today, and the helicopters were (I think) a little random and not really needed, but they had 200 million bucks to play with so…why not? If only they could have afforded to have a complete new score from one composer like Batman Returns.

GuestLol Spider-Fan.
I’ve seen it and those helicopters were a little too distracting indeed but the real problem is that when the theme gets bigger, one of the helicopters passes by and covers the music.
The fun part is that I almost predicted this, joking with an Elfman fan… - AuthorPosts
