GuestAnyone know how many different foregin language versions of The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack there are?
A friend of mine got me the French version (“L’etrange Noel de Monsieur Jack”) when she was in France, and I’ve heard there’s a German version as well. Does anyone know of others?

GuestI don’t know about the *soundtrack* although I’ll ask this girl, but I have a Korean friend who used to watch the movie all the time in Korean, and then was really surprised when I showed it to her in English. She kept telling me what all the Korean lyrics translated to. I forget what they were, but some of them were pretty interesting!

Guestthere is also a spanish version (spanish of spain, not mexican spanish, they are quite different) called “pesadilla antes de navidad” but the lyrics are not quite good… so i decided to do what any good mexican elfman fan would do, translate them into mexican spanish and sign them myslef… well that’s not what any fan would do, just one with a LOT of spare time… anyways if someone wants the mexican spanish lyrics (translated and adapted by yours truly) just tell me, ill be glad to send them to you.

GuestI have the German version. Everything sounds much more evil in that language, approriately enough for the movie. They got Nina Haagen (99 Red Balloons) to sing the part of Sally, and she does it really well!
Oh, the “second” narration on the album was left instrumental on the German release– kind of like a bonus track, I guess.

GuestI got the french AND the german versions. God, there’s nothing like the original english version….
But there’s a cover of “Sally’s song” by a band called “London at midnight”, which is awesome.

GuestI’ve been searching as well for all the language scores as well. My goal is to have all the language tracks out on DVD to my collection. A phenimonal film that deserves much more credit than it’s given. I can watch it over & over again & never get tired of it. Out of all of them i have so far, I agree the German soundtrack works best for the score. To me it sounds more operatic in the vocals & the harmonies in the background are much richer. I agree (no offense to anyone German as I speak the language myself) but it does produce a more darker tone than the others. One correction on a previous post 6/25/02–Nena is the artist who did “99 Red Balloons/99Luft Ballons” not Nina Hagen. Nina Hagen had a small hit back in the early 80’s with “New York New York” –two completely different singers. I am not being nit-picky but always give credit where credit is due & she does a PHENOMENAL job on the soundtrack, especially when she sings “Sally’s Leid”
This is what I have so far in my DVD collection:
1)Original German release “Nightmare Before Christmas” (note missing the ‘The’ in the title): German, English, Castellano (available from amazon.de–re-released as the “Special Edition) Santa is referred to as Nickie Graus instead of Nicholas (as in St. Nicholas) in the German track/He is referred to as Santa Clavo in the Castellano track (clavo translated in English is “nails“)
2)French Release “L’Etrange Noël de Monsieur Jack” DTS (this version for some reason is presented in THX–the colors are more vibrant than the other versions): French DTS & 5.1, English (available from Amazon.fr)
3)UK Special Edition”The Nightmare Before Christmas” : English, Italian, Spanish (I have listened to the Spanish & Castellano tracks & both sound identical–tho I am aware there are variations between the two languages) The Italian track is fun to listen to. (available from amazon.co.uk & hmv.co.uk)
4)Original Japanese Release “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (the spine of the CD is written in Japanese): An interesting soundtrack–menu’s are hard to navigate if you can’t read Japanese. You can’t change the audio tracks via the remote/you can change the subtitles.: Japanese, English. (available from amazon.co.jp & hmv.co.jp)
I’ve looked at tthe Auatralian release & they have English, French & German/the Italan release is English, Italian & Spanish tracks so nothing new there. I am all for any suggestions of other known languages that might exist on DVD & where to purchase. If anyone would like to trade language tracks they might be missing I am up for that. Thanx
