GuestDid you hear about this new project of Barry Sonnenfeld ? It will be written by the Coen Brothers and will star Carrey and Diaz. Imdb announce it for 2005.
Do you think Danny will be involved in the project ?July 16, 2003 at 6:51 pm #45954Anonymous
GuestThe IMDB doesn’t mention the Coen Brothers being attatched to this project. It says it’s written by Judd Apatow and Peter Tolan. I didn’t think they would be, as I am a huge Coen Brothers fan (if my screenname were any indication) and haven’t heard of anything like this in development.
Still, I’m excited about a new Barry Sonnenfeld movie. Sonnenfeld is easily the best comedy director working today, even if some of his films weren’t that great (For Love or Money and Wild, Wild, West come to mind, but I think the problem there was script-related).
As for Elfman’s involvement, Sonnenfeld typically doesn’t work with the same composer more than once (the exceptions being the Addams Family movies by Marc Shaiman and, of course, Men in Black). But who knows.

GuestThe Coen brothers were brought in this week by Sonnenfeld to do redrafts of the script according to all the major industry trades. Jack’s right, it’s legit. Hopefully Sonnenfeld will call Elfman up for the score next year…This is, of course, if it wouldn’t interfere with Willy Wonka
Can’t wait for that if Elfman signs…July 17, 2003 at 12:38 am #45957Anonymous
GuestI should point out Sonnenfeld directed BIG TROUBLE, a terrible comedy that also featured a terrible score by James Newton Howard (rare for him).

Guestyeah ryan, we know that Sonnenfeld is not the most talented guy in Hollywood (it’s an honest filmmaker, who knows failures sometimes). But with a script written by the Coen Bros, the production starts pretty well !

GuestIf there was any justice in Hollywood, the Coens would be directing this film with Sonnenfeld directing the photography, his true talent.
I loved the Addams Family movies and “Get Shorty,” but when your three most recent credits include “Wild Wild West,” “Big Trouble,” and “Men in Black II,” it takes me a long time to give a damn.

GuestLooks like Sonnenfeld dropped off the project, possibly lessening the odds of Elfman’s involvement (if there were any to begin with).

GuestYep, Sonnenfeld is out. It’s the second time he’s left a project after Jim Carrey has signed on. Yahoo! Entertainment News speculates the two may just not work well together.
