This is a pretty good article. It talks a lot about how Big Fish being snubbed at the Oscars is a bunch of crap.

GuestRead that — and on the other hand, he also tries to make a case for COLD MOUNTAIN. Snooze!

GuestAwww man! Cold Mountain was great! I thought it was really entertaining. The whole love story part was kinda iffy for me, but all-in-all I had a good time at the movies.

GuestI totally agree with that person’s views on the Academy Awards. All the boring, independent touchy-feely movies always get nominated. Now that Tim Burton released a somewhat touchy-feely tearjerker, the Academy points its head away! Those people don’t know anything about GOOD movies.

GuestI never cared for Civil War movies. They should make more World War I movies.

GuestThe war movie I want to see isn’t really a war movie. I want to see a movie about Hitler that delves into the intangible charismatic something-or-other he had that let him convince an entire fucking country that he was right, when he was so clearly wrong.
It’ll never be made, of course – it’s way too politically incorrect. Every time you see Hitler portrayed on film, he has to be shown as a monster that grows horns and breathes fire, otherwise a special interest group somewhere will get pissed off and limit the film’s audience by complaining.

GuestWell, isn’t that what Hitler was? He tried to take over the world and killed millions of Jews, among others. I think this is taking the whole anti-hero thing WAY too far, man. The guy was a pile of dog—; not even worth any kind of rememberance…or romanticism. Look at the cold reception that movie”Hitler: The rise to power”got — I don’t know how politically incorrect it is when it comes to a mass murderer tyrant…but if you were living under his rule, i’m sure a movie-of-the-week would be the LASTthing you would ever consider…

GuestHey, nobody’s romanticising here, man. All I’m saying is that there are aspects of his character that haven’t been explored on film – you can’t expect me to believe that he went around screaming and frothing at the mouth 24 hours a day, can you?
Keep in mind, I’m not advocating anything he did, nor am I saying that he was anything but a pile of dogshit (you’re absolutely right on that one). I really shouldn’t have to say that, but it seems to me that a lot of people don’t like to use their brains when it comes to this sort of thing.

GuestIncidentally, there’s a book by Don DeLillo, entitled “White Noise,” which deals with the concept of making Hitler into a field of postsecondary study. In other words, along with various OTHER types of armageddonesque imagery, DeLillo presents “Hitler Studies” as a logical (albeit morbidly funny) field of study in a progressive, liberal-arts college atmosphere. You might check it out if you’re into black humor and bitingly sarcastic social commentary…and I know at least a few of you are.
-E (Ironically enough, I went to the supermarket today and found ONLY black-and-white M & M’s. This being Valentine’s day, I found it very funny: either the pink-white-and-red M & M’s sold out immediately, or the stocking clerk was in a really pissy mood today…take your pick)

GuestOk, Ryan, I know that last comment plugging DeLillo’s “White Noise” had nothing to do with Elfman. Apologies for that. No hard feelings if you end up nixing it.

GuestYeah, nothing on this entire thread has anything to do with Elfman.
