GuestDidn’t I read somewhere that Zimmer was scoring the latest HARRY POTTER? Did he pass it up? Was his score rejected? And what’s this William Ross guys involvement? Did John Williams do anything for the movie?

GuestJohn Williams composed all the music heard on Chmber of Secrets. He handed conducting and the ambiguous “adaptation” to William Ross…a guy’s who’s been around for a while…mostly known as Alan Silvestri’s main orchestrator. With Spielberg’s catch me if you can’ coming out, Williams’ didn’t have time to completely handle the cosre by himself. So many less important cues were left to be composed by Ross. And I have to say, i am a big fan of the original Potter score, and Chamber of Secrets is a score of wonderful quality and color. Ross does a great job conducting.
Hans Zimmer never had anything to do with Potter, and the score you might have heard him turning down was Terminator 3, or so it is according to http://www.musicformthemovies.com.My guess is as the Potter movies get less important, less lucrative, and so forth, you’ll see William Ross taking over composer duties for the Franchise.

Guestthe “hans zimmer scoring harry potter 2” thing was just a joke made by the Texas Ranger back at the elfman zone.
it was ajoke about who would be scoring the sequel that the made way back when the movie was just being filmed, so the answer would be NO zimmer never was approached to score Potter 2-Alonso (and the killer karaoke machine) Vences

GuestAbout the comment that “Chamber of Secrets” was a score of wonderful quality…
As the semi-proud owner of the “Sorceror’s Stone” soundtrack, I was disappointed to hear, MANY times, precise multi-measure note-for-note recreations of “Stone” tracks in the “Secrets” score. Even with the Indiana Jones trilogy, Williams had a lot of originality for each film, but “Secrets” seemed like he just pulled up the recordings from the previous film and laid them in whenever he could. (I don’t KNOW that that’s what happened, but it sounded like it far too often.) (Oh, and I had the same complaint about the fourth Batman movie, which had cues taken directly from the third one, MR. GOLDENTHAL!!) (But that’s another story.)
Now, “Stone” was indeed a delightful score that I enjoy listening to, so in that sense, so is “Secrets.”
But “Secrets” is hardly new and noteworthy.
And with the poor quality of the script and the camerawork in “Secrets,” I won’t be surprised if the franchise plummets a lot faster than Warner Bros. had expected. Time for Columbus and whoever the writer were to graciously back out and let fresh blood keep it going.

GuestWhat ever happened to Zimmer anyway… He seems to be slacking off with his lack of epic scores. What happened to his Prince of Egypt / Gladiator quality scores? And why does he do scores with other people? He cant handle a movie by himself?
