First of all, I IDOLISE Danny Elfman!
    He seriously is a genius!
Unfortunately tho, his work is not released very widely here (Australia) and so I only have the soundtrack for “Men In Black” which only has two tracks by him on it!
I want to get “Music for a darkened theatre volume 2” but that is not sold here either…I am going to order it from Amazon, but I really want to get the original score from “To Die For” because I LOVE it and I feel it has been sadly neglected as one of his better works…
Most places that I have tried to find it say that it is sold out world wide and is no longer being produced…

    -cheers :)

If you order MUSIC FOR A DARKENED THEATER VOL. 2, all of the good stuff from TO DIE FOR is on there. Seriously, 17 mins. is all the goods.

    – 17 minutes, really? I could have sworn it was 11 minutes…

Oops — you’re right. The score on the TO DIE FOR album actually runs 19 minutes, the suite on MFADT2 runs 11.

Though the 11 minutes has all the best stuff in there.

COOL!!!!! Atleast there is SOME of it!!!!!
I am ordering it RIGHT away!!!

P.S. I am a composer and am currantly writing a couple of numbers that are in a similar style to “THE GREAT MAN HIMSELF”(Danny Elfman)
Once I have recorded the midi files of them I will upload them to the net and get ur thoughts on them!

“P.S. I am a composer and am currantly writing a couple of numbers that are in a similar style to “THE GREAT MAN HIMSELF”(Danny Elfman)”

Similar style, huh? Like “Simple Plan”, “Freeway”, “Chicago”, Sommersby”, “Extreme Measures”?
PS: There might be a few who enjoy listening to MIDIs by so-called “composers”. I’m none of them – I prefer the original, and I’m getting tired of these 15 seconds clips which try so hard to sound like music. Plus: Keep in mind that this still is a Danny Elfman-board, not a composing-board.
(Do I sound nasty? In E’s words: “These comments are quite harsh generalizations. Frankly, they are uncalled for.” )

Anywaz…looking forward to receiving my copy of Music for a darkened theatre volume 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, MIDI is terrible unless the person playing it has the exact same samples that you used on it. Record it as an MP3, then upload it to something like mp3.com, then look around for people to give you feedback (there are plenty). I think the reason that Nin is so hostile is because we have gotten people who come here and post this horrible crappy music as thier topics, but Ryan usually gets rid of them before alot of you guys see it (but I always seem to be online to catch these posts.

A good composer friend of mine told me “Don’t try to sound like ANYONE, no matter who they are. The main thing that you have to think about as a composer is giving people a new sound, a new style. If you are thinking about composing, make sure you have that in mind before you even attempt.” and I think this is some great advise (even though I write really bad techno music hehehe). No one can sound like Danny because he did what my friend was talking about. He had a definate style before he even scored anything.

I would be happy to tell you what I think about your music, but remember that this is a Danny Elfman board, and we talk about Danny Elfman here (or sometimes how big someone’s butt is, depending on far the conversation strays from the topic). At the very end of one of your posts (NOT a topic) stick on that if anyone is willing to let you know what they think of your music to give you an e-mail, and those who are willing will, and you won’t piss anyone off.

Hope this helps you in one way or another.

N – *grins* Nice to know I”m being quoted. All in good fun, you know. If I get really ticked about something, I usually don’t say anything at all. Quite frankly, I find most of the arguments on here amusing…

-E (Wow, Ryan was wrong for once! Who’s going to be our next “infalliable Elfman oracle?!” Grab your torches and pitchforks! J/k, Ryan. Thanks again for all of your hard work for the Elf community)
