    That hulk score, first of all, you can download the entire album, which is kinda funny as well as bad for Elfman business when you consider all the MP3 piracy going around…Still, it satisfies one from going through the god damn hunger pangs of waiting for it to come out in the store or through your mailman. Both actions can make your hands shake in anticipation.
    Second of all, i just find it to be a mix of his previous stuff…POA/Spider Man rhythms, and Red Dragon. It also remids me of Howard Shore’s flick, the FLY – but nowhere as tragic. Instantly i liked it — which is a hard thing to do with Elfman’s stuff lately because of his experimentation. Before i used to buy the score and say “Hey it’s Elfman…screw you Williams, etc sorry!,” But with his jumping around with new ideas, you never know. The whole Middle Eastern sounding thing is a really REALLY odd choice, and could have had to something do with ANG LEE, or just another one of his experiments…but what i was REALLY thinking was that Elfman is expressing his anti-war sentiments or what not by putting that seemingly controversial and unconnected type of music into such a mainstream comic book flick. I mean, the guy did say he was on vacation after Red Dragon, didn’t he? so maybe he took this opportunity to do a little subversive soapboxing…Hey it might not be true, and it really doesn’t matter one way or the other, but it’s not unheard of.
    Personally i think Hulk sounds a bit too much like Zimmer, and should have had more piano involved — but i’m going with my old 70s television show affiliation. If you’re ever downloading the score, or making a copy for yourself, a good thing that would supplement the score really well (since the end credits are SO SHORT) is to add the tv show’s finale piano theme…it really mixes in well and adds a couple of extra noteworthy and deep minutes to an otherwise heavy score.

    That’s why his music is more entertaining than the movie…i pretty much consider anything he does an Oingo Boingo instrumental album…

    I do agree. I noticed that the Hulk sounded a lot like Red Dragon, it even has pieces pulled from Red Dragon, but after a few seconds, he adds in a violin or something, and changes it again.

    I love Danny Elfman’s themes, everything he does, but I hate it when a composer uses things from previous film scores, that annoys me!!!! Sorry Danny! :)

    I know Danny Elfman’s done a lot of movies, so there would be someday this sort of event, where he would have done that many, that somewhere a theme would pop up, but I’ve heard this on a number of his recent ones.

    Anyway, its still mysterious and dark, and that’s what I like. Can’t wait to see the movie (I’m in the UK you see).

    On first listen, I thought the score had a few “Red Dragon” elements as well as a bit of “Spiderman” in there but I had followed to story and figured that he didn’t have much time to work on it either. I love all of his music and I respect how he grows and continues to challenge himself with each new project. I thought “Red Dragon” was a great addition and a big step forward for Danny. I discovered Bernard Herrmanns music before I started following Danny and Herrmann is one of my heroes as well and what always amazes me is Danny always manages to create the same type of colours and textures as Herrmann without ever sacraficing his own voice. I saw “Hulk” and I admit that i didn’t care much for it. I appreciate good character development and I love Ang Lee but it was obvious that there was too many studio executives that thought they knew what was best and didn’t trust Lee enough just to do his vision. it is too bad really. Now that I have seen the movie though, I realized that Danny’s score is a great addition and instead of comparing it to “Spiderman” or “Red Dragon”, I see it as an exploration of ideas that came to him during the work on those scores that you only get and understand after you finish the project and had time to actually go over what you did in the mad rush to get things completed on time.
    All I know is Danny is a true artist and I respect his work immensely. I think Elfman has managed to bridge the gap between the “Old School” masters like Herrmann and Steiner and the new prominent composers and the future of film music in general. I respect that Danny is exploring and searching for new sounds and ideas because there isn’t very many that are nor is it really encouraged and the future of film music will definitely reflect that.

    I love the “Hulk” Main Titles – especially around the 2:30 mark – great little theme
