GuestIf John Williams can’t score Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Why not Danny Elfman? I did a search in google and found a list of Danny Elfman’s works and the Genre of Fantasy (Which Harry Potter falls under) Elfman had just touched on a little bit on (eg Spiderman 1 & 2). Think about it?

GuestA newcomer here, but I’ve always been interested in what an Elfman-scored Harry Potter would sound like. Personally, I wasn’t too impressed with Williams’s work on Prisoner of Azkaban (though the Terminal score is something I keep humming to myself). I doubt Danny Elfman has the time to take on something like Harry Potter, plus too many people would be upset about a new Harry Potter theme. Sure, you can replace Danny Elfman with Elliot Goldenthal on Batman and we don’t raise too big of a fit about it, but the Harry Potter theme is more widely known by more non-film music enthusiasts.

GuestI don’t think that would be a good idea, and for one reason: There is already well established themes in those films, and a certain atmosphere that goes with them. Elfman probably wouldn’t pick it up because of that. But I still would like to hear Elfman do another fantasy film, it’s been too long!
Knight (More along the lines of Scissorhands than Fish if you know what I mean)

GuestWhere did you hear that John Williams can’t score the next Harry Potter? I wasn’t totally thrilled with the first, disliked the second (except for the Fawkes theme), and was just blown away by parts of the third. I honestly think it’s the best score he’s produced in a long, long time and was very much looking forward to seeing where he would be going with the fourth. I know that another composer can do good things with it too, but I was looking forward to hearing John Williams doing it again.
Frankly, though, if I were John Williams, I would get soooooooo sick of hearing/writing/performing the same themes all the time (Star Wars, Harry Potter . . . ugh)

GuestI don’t know. Star Wars gets pretty cool lately. I just know the score for the final movie is gonna be great. The Imperial March was hinted to in the last two prequels but it will come full circle in 2005. We got a taste of John William’s “Dark Star Wars Score” in parts of the second prequel and I’m dying to see him take every liberty he can with the final one. There’s a new theme in every installment. I want to see what he does THEME-wise for Revenge of the Sith next year.

Guesthttp://www.jwfan.net if you want to see why John Williams can’t score Harry Potter.
I don’t think it would be a good reason for Danny to score the next Harry Potter for two reasons…(1) he wouldn’t be his normal creative self scoring a movie with themes by somebody else, and (2) changing the themes in the middle of the series would detract from the entire Harry Potter experience.
I’m hoping that for the next Harry Potter, John Williams can at least bang out a few themes and some main cues (like he did with the second Harry Potter movie while he was busy with SW Episode II, Minority Report, and Catch Me If You Can) and leave completing it to someone else.

GuestActually I thought Goldenthal did a very nice job on Batman. He alludes to his theme morethen once, although his style is certainly diffrent.
I overall liked Goldenthal’s score and theme better then Elfman’s, which I also love.…not a good start on an Elfman-board, right?

Guesthey, better a long but useful subject line rather than the moronic short ones like “What if?” or “Is it just me or…”

GuestIf Danny were to score a Harry Potter film, I’d rather he did the fifth one than the fourth. I just couldn’t see his style suiting the feel of the fourth movie. The fifth one, yes, definately, but not the fourth.
