GuestI can’t believe it. I was just visiting my favourite swiss online cd-shop, cede.ch , and noticed that the spiderman score cd HAS ALREADY BEEN RELEASED in switzerland. It says : july 6th. Anyway, I ordered it yesterday, and saw today on the site that it was “delayed”…
The funny thing is that this morning, when I woke up and checked the mail, the cd had arrived !!!!!!!!! I’ve got it !!!!!!!! This time, it’s the real thing!!!!!!!!And I take back all the things I’ve said in other topics about elfman being bored scoring sequels. The cd is awesome. It’s nothing really original or new, but it’s just a logical sequel to the first one. Ok, it will never be as good as what Batman returns was, as a score sequel… But it surely is much better than MIB2.
I’ll send a short review of every track tomorrow, when I’m finished listening to the wole thing…Ahh… I love Switzerland… a country far far away, with nothing much intresting hapening… Movies being released months after their release in the US….. But COOL SCORE BEING RELEASED EARLIER !!!!!!!!!!!!

GuestLucky you!!! Do you live in Switzerland or are you just visiting? Either way, you’re so incredibly lucky to get the score weeks before the rest of us. That is if they don’t ship to the USA…do they?

GuestAh, Switzerland. Went there manymany years ago (Interlaken region – German-speaking region, right?) and met some very friendly cows with bells on. Bought a mini cuckoo clock (and an identical one when I visited Salzburg last year!), and watched as my dad got bitten by midgies and his legs swelled up like puss-filled balloons. Didn’t spot a CD shop, though. :o)

GuestOk. Here’s a description of the cd :
First of all, no Debney music, no Young music !!! It is all Elfman’s score, except the “Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head” song, written by Bacharach and David, and performed by B. J. Thomas!!!The track listing on the back of the cd says : “Tracks 10 & 11 Bonus Tracks”. These are the “Train / Appreciation” and “Aunt May Packs” tracks. Those are probably tracks that have been later replaced in the movie by the additional score by Debney or Young… So : exclusive music, guys

The inserts (in black and white) list all the musicians in the orchestra, and the credits. No liner notes, and not even thank you’s.
The artwork on the disc is great though. It’s red, with a big spider on it.
Let’s talk about the musicThe Main titles are great. The structure is the same as the spidey 1 main titles, except that the green goblin theme part has been replaced by the Doc Ock theme. The orchestrations are slightly different too. There’s more choir in it, and that’s great!!!
There are a lot of action cues, but they’re much better than those in the first score. Lots of brassy and percussive sounds, and cellos too (like the green goblin theme).
I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I can’t really tell, but I think that the doc ock has actually two themes. There are great quiet sentimental moments in the score too.I’m truely happy to hear a cd with all new material. I was affraid to hear a cd with lots of music from the first movie, but this isn’t the case, even if it is in the movie…
Does anyone know if the debney and young cues are going to be released somehow sometime???
I don’t know if cede.ch sends cd’s worldwide… I think it’s only for swirtzerland… Anyway, I always have to wait moths for everything… For once, it’s your turn to wait, guys

GuestHa, you’re right. Switzerland does deserve a break. I doubt that Sony would bother to release a CD of the additional music from the movie, though I really did like the Debney and Young cues. As I’ve often said here, “Special Delivery” is an incredible cue from Debney.

GuestOh God, these clips are absolutely marvelous. I doubt any words can even describe it. This score is a wonderful achievement: heroic, beautiful, gothic, and very uplifting. I’ve been looking very forward to this score, but I just wasn’t expecting it to sound so good. This is further proof that Danny Elfman is the world’s greatest living musical artist…

GuestDoes the Train song piss anyone else off? It’s a direct rip-off of “Hero”…which wasn’t that great a song to begin with…Train just lately has been ripping EVERYTHING off…ALL of their songs sound so much like other songs…”Drops of Jupiter” sounds like that “Drift Away” song that Uncle Kracker re-did…”When I Look to the Sky” sounds like that Mandy Moore song from “A Walk to Remember” and this one sounds like attempted Evanescence rip-off of “Hero”.
yeah…sorry. I know this is supposed to be about the score…I just had to blow off a bit of steam. =p

GuestJust got the Spidey2 score! Love cede.ch

GuestIt’s what, $22 to order from cede.ch (with the shipping cost to the US)? As much as I’m drooling over the clips, and as much as this score is worth it, I’ll have to wait and just pay normal price when it’s released here. But as I said above, this score sounds wonderful.

Guesttheir music is only a handful of seconds. not worth a release. Elfman’s music is intermixed with their small pieces.

GuestSooo…..what about the great choir part…part what we can hear in Spidey trailer??? Or it is NOT Elfman`s music?
July 10, 2004 at 7:09 pm #51141Anonymous
GuestIsn’t that the “Finale” from the first Spider-Man score? Ryan? Spider-Fan?
July 10, 2004 at 8:57 pm #51144Anonymous
GuestNO!! It was something a la “LA-LA-LA etc A-A-A- LA-LA-LA”
Very coll….. It reminds me old Elfman style… choir ala Batman Returns or John Williams`s “Duel of the Fates” from Star Wars Episode 1July 10, 2004 at 9:22 pm #51146Anonymous
GuestHorrible horrible music if you ask me. Elfman never composed that kind of thing even during his “lalala” period…
July 11, 2004 at 5:05 pm #51151Anonymous
GuestEr, that has been discussed 1,000 times here and elsewhere — it’s not by Danny Elfman, it’s by Immediate Music.

GuestFYI it’s impossible to order internationally from the Swiss site cede.ch (unless you live in Lichtenstein). Each clip is 30 seconds (but downloadable, for those who have slow modems and can’t stand streaming).
I’ve just ordered successfully (i.e. my browser didn’t explode, and I assume I ordered a CD and not a purple nuclear submarine.. my German is that bad) from amazon.de, which is currently warning a few days’ delay, which probably means I won’t get my disc until my “local” store (local as in Oxford Street HMV) has started selling at knock-down price.
Now to loop those 30 second tracks into a seamless mishmash of 7.5 minutes on my MP3 player. I do believe I get sadder by the day…
Oh and by the way, I typed out part of an Elfman interview, from when he was mid-way composing the score. The direct link (for those who do not wish orange overload) is http://disc.server.com/discussion.cgi?disc=222050;article=170;title=Elfman%20Zone%20Discussion%20Board
Haben Sie einen schönen Tag!

btw, i’m flying to L.A. shortly due to an unfortunate family emergency, so if anything big and important happens in the forum, someone please e-mail me. if only danny was there instead of london to brighten my spirits…

GuestWell, Danny _was_ here over the weekend for TV Night at the Hollywood Bowl, but I’d guess he’s back in London already.
