GuestWell, I haven’t heard this before… Yeah, the trailer has Scissorhands music. But this? This is unashamedly flaunting it! I thought I left my CD player on! And did I catch some Adams Family in there, too? Can’t remember if they used that in the last trailer or not :os

GuestI watched this trailer a few weeks ago. I have nothing against Jim Carrey (I loved him in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), but he looks awfully annoying in this. It looks better than all recent fantasy/childrens efforts, but that isn’t saying too much…however, it does look like a beautiful production, with many Burton regulars working on it. The score by Thomas Newman should be VERY interesting though, and I eagerly await the soundclips (which will be several months from now).
And yes, it was definately The Addams Family in the trailer, along with Scissorhands.

GuestI’m a big fan of the books, and these trailers piss me off.

GuestThe premise of the movie is quite good, and actually reminds me A LOT of a book I read called “The Magic Toyshop” by Angela Carter…written in 1967, it told the story of what happened when a young girl and her younger brother, after their parents are killed in an accident, go to live with their insane uncle (who is a toy maker). The book was an allegory to the teenage girl’s sexual awakening, and it’s an interesting book (though it isn’t without it’s flaws…especially compared to the first thirty pages or so, which I found to be just incredible…but I’ve always thought it would’ve worked absolutely brilliantly as a film…but with Lemony Snicket being made with such a similar set-up, there’s no chance of that now). I have no doubt that the Snicket books are very bright and creative, but the dreadful miscasting of Carrey in the film has probably ruined any chance of it’s success. Too bad they didn’t cast Crispin Glover, he really needs to do a film like this (and he’s a very interesting character, and has just a wonderfully strange persona and look…not to mention he’s my favorite actor working today).

Guest“not to mention he’s my favorite actor working today”
You’re kidding. Why?!
I’ll take Jim Carrey over him any day.

GuestYou’re also the guy that doesn’t like circus music right? (not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I adore the stuff
)Crispin Glover is only who I would want, 99% of everybody else would probably choose Jim Carrey. Different strokes, I guess. But to answer your question, I really love Crispin’s look. He has very dark eyes, is very pale, and has a slick, short, combed-back haircut, and a very interesting nose. He almost looks like he stepped out of a silent film. I can’t believe he isn’t utilized more often in film, but that’s just me. Many people must hate him, I imagine, but his look and acting really appeals to me. If there were two guys I’d like to hang out with right now, I’d choose Crispin and Danny. The both love porcelain dolls, foreign films, foreign art, and other things that I also adore…they both also have coffins, I read. Yes, I’m weird.
