GuestA TV spot for Brad Siberling’s “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” has been released on the internet, and Danny’s Edward Scissorhands score is used at the beginning. It looks pretty cool, and Jim Carrey looks to be pretty funny. Take a look:

GuestIt’s amusing that the two scores you hear in the TV trailer are probably the ones that will get ripped off the most in the film – EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and THE ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES! However, it is Thomas Newman scoring… So…
Soundtrack is on Sony Classical.

GuestVERY cool. Thanks for sharing!
A prehensile-tailed skink at my school got used in that . . . we thought he would be gone shooting for about a week, and he ended up going for like 2 months or something. I challenge anyone else to find me another school where the prehensile-tailed skinks go on movie shoots . . . with Jim Carrey.
On another slightly related Elfman note, this particular skink was also supposed to be in The Hulk, but the actors were too scared of him.

GuestI wish I had as much luck in the movie field as that skink…

GuestYou know, “prehensile-tailed skink” is a bit misleading…if I didn’t know better, I’d think it a derogatory term to be directed toward one’s nemesis. That’ll make a great “word brain teaser” tomorrow in my classroom! Thanks, Infynitie

Guesthttp://www.signalherp.com/prehensile_tailed_skinks.htm <--- Prehensile-tailed skinks. I don’t have much experience with reptiles (really, just the ones at school – – various colubrids, pythons, boas, an anaconda, turtles/tortoises, lizards etc., and I’ve also become an alligator trainer so I’ve been handling/catching and learning about him), but these guys seem pretty unique and cool to me
Not just the prehensile tail, but these are the only waxy-feeling reptiles I know of. Again, that’s really not saying much considering my inexperience, but I think they’re awesome
Also, skinks definitely do strike me as the kind of animal that would be seen in one of the labs from The Hulk. I only saw the movie once, but I think I recall seeing a blue-tongued skink in there.April 5, 2004 at 2:55 am #49337Anonymous
GuestYou learn alligator training at school? I think that may actually be the single coolest thing I’ve ever heard.
Spiffy-looking commercial, Spidey. Thanks.

GuestBurt – – it’s exotic animal training. I’m training some of the underdog animals, ones that people usually don’t ask for – – a coyote, an agouti, a red-crested turaco, 3 squirrel monkeys (who shat all over me today), and of course, the alligator. It’s the only place in the world where you’ll find students learning to train tigers, baboons, eagles, and camels, and of course, where you’ll find prehensile-tailed skinks (and many other animals) who go on movie shoots when they’re not teaching students about themselves

Since I am sort of obligated to tie this into Elfman, I’ll go ahead and say that our big annual fundraiser always includes a 45-minute theme show, and I donated a bunch of music (including Elfman, of course). The show was basically about a circus train crashing in a jungle and all the animals getting loose. The show started with Big Top Pee Wee (actually very effective in the show) and included some others. I can’t remember them all off the top of my head, but there was a scene with people and animals running around in general chaos that used the TV main titles for Beetlejuice, and there was also a trap-building scene that had Back to School music.

GuestColleen Atwood, Rick Heinrich, Emmanuel Lubezki are all involved in this production….but no Danny Elfman…ah well…lets see what Thomas will do.

Guest“Lemony Snicket…” looks visually stunning! I, for one, enjoy Carrey’s work in general…and can’t wait to see what he’s come up with for this film!
FYI: just got back from “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” Although not necessarily mind-blowingly original, the music certainly served its purpose, and very well at that!
Burt – your comments about it being a good “date” movie are right on. Although the guy I went with is simply a friend, it was probably for the best…I enjoyed the movie on a number of dangerously uneasy levels.

GuestI’m not so sure about this. It looks funny, but it also looks like a G rated Nickelodian movie for children, but I hope I’m wrong. Carrey’s one of my favorites, and I need to see Spotless Mind!!!

GuestThere is nothing wrong with G rated films.

GuestNot unless it’s Lemony Snicket we’re talking about.

GuestI haven’t read the books, but this movie looks like it’s gonna be great – just the kinda thing I could really get into… and I don’t really mind if whoever scores it ends up ripping off the Adams Family stuff… I LOVE those scores, and I LOVE those movies – some of my favourites! I reckon the spooky/funny vibe would go well with this Lemony Snickett stuff. From doing a bit of research, this “series of unfortunate events” seems too take bizarre, and creepy stuff in quite a matter-of-fact tone, much like the Adams Family, so I reckon the musical style would match perfectly. By the by, wasn’t it a little weird seeing “Wednesday” all grown up in Sleepy Hollow.

GuestNow that I think of it, the director of Lemony Snicket, Brad Siberling, stood but a few feet from me. He directed Moonlight Mile, which was filmed in my town. I was there for a lot of the filming and I’m really mad now that I didn’t know who he or Jake Gyllenhall were then, because they were a foot or two from me. ARGH!!! I should have shouted to Siberling to choose Danny for Lemony Snicket, though he hadn’t signed on yet….

GuestI find it a bit offensive that it’s funny….after all the series is called “A Series of UNFORTUNATE Events”, not “look how funny Jim Carrey makes Count Olaf be.” It’s also annyoing how the music on the trailers for almost all movies never appears in the actual movie. Stupid rip-offs. Taking music from other people…..how irritating….
