Guestcan someone help me out here? What do you think “Little Girls” (Boingo song) is saying/about? There was some discrepency between me and a friend… and I just wanted to clear some stuff up. Anyone else’s take would be appreciated. Thanx.
Here are the lyrics from Dan’s Boingo Page (http://www.boingo.org/lyrics.html):
I love little girls they make me feel so good
I love little girls they make me feel so bad
When they’re around they make me feel
Like I’m the only guy in town
I love little girls they make me feel so goodThey don’t care if I’m a one way mirror
They’re not frightened by my cold exteriorThey don’t ask me questions
They don’t want to scold be
They don’t look for answers
They just want to hold be
Isn’t this fun
Isn’t this what life’s all about
Isn’t this a dream come true
Isn’t this a nightmare too(Repeat first verse)
They don’t care about my inclinations
They’re not frightened by my revelationsUh oh take a second take
Uh oh it’s a mistake
Uh oh I’m in trouble
Uh oh the little girl was just to little
Too little, too little, too little
Isn’t this what life’s all about
Isn’t this a dream come true
Isn’t this a nightmare too . . .And I don’t care what people say
And I don’t care what people think
And I don’t care how we look walking down the street(Repeat Chorus)
(Repeat first verse)
(I think the “be” is supposed to be “me”, but I’ve not heard the song, so I don’t know)

GuestI always took it as a satirical song ridiculing pedophiles, or the nearly-pedophilic older man/much MUCH younger woman gig. Just to cover my own *ss, here’s a disclaimer: I’ve got no problem with age difference in dating. Who someone chooses to date is none of my business and, quite frankly, I’m not interested in anyone’s love life except my own. However, I do cringe when one of the parties is very naive and is clearly being used by the other for certain shady purposes. Homily ended.

GuestThere’s nothing sick about the song because it’s not to be taken literally. It’s a highly-satirical, highly-wise-ass Boingo Anethum.
I have a good friend who’s 21, and he went out with a 17-year-old. There was no hanky-panky mind you, but during the initial breakup he’d laugh at himself for being under Danny Elfman’s ridicule.

GuestI don’t think Danny was ridiculing anyone. I honestly think he was singing about his love for young girls. It’s not that uncommon for a man to be attracted to under age girls. Take a country like Sweden for example. The legal age for having sex is 15. I think it is something like 13 in Brazil. I think Danny was just writing about something we Americans regard as taboo in our country. That’s all.

GuestI’m all in favor of keeping hypernationalism out of this board. There’s no problem with national pride, of course, but flaunting it at the expense of another country ain’t cool.

Guest“Hypernationalism”? I don’t think you could find that word in a dictionary. But, since I am all in favor of a persons freedom to express themselves and create new words and I am also in favor of a persons right to interpret what people mean by the words they use, no matter what there nationality is, I will be cool and I won’t hold it against you.

GuestIf you dig up interviews from the time of the early OB albums, Danny talks about this song. He said it was a social commentary about all these Hollywood types that he’d see, the 50ish producer with the 18 year old girlfriend and it annoyed him at the time. He said something along the lines of “where’s the challenge in that?” meaning he thought those girls just had stars in their eyes and would follow the man anywhere, do anything and he would want someone who could think on her own.
OB stopped playing the song live for quite a while supposedly because Danny had gotten kinda sensitive to the whole pedophiliac image it had taken on since he had a couple little girls of his own nearng the age that they might have to deal with those old men who love little girls. They brought it back for the final tour though. That they stopped playing the song then brought it back is fact. The reasons for that are still just speculation and rumor. I’ve not yet found an article or seen and interview with Danny discussing this directly.
