GuestI’m starting this so that we can all discuss and comment on the Academy Awards, whomever is interested in them. I almost saw Danny Elfman, but the ABC correspondant guy’s head was in the way of where I know he’s sitting. Good luck tonight, Danny!

GuestI’m watching, too. Haven’t seen him yet!
… Billy Crystal should be sacked. >.<

GuestWell, Howard Shore won, it was inevitable. But where was Danny? He wasn’t at the show! I HATE HOWARD SHORE!!!
March 1, 2004 at 4:00 am #48541Anonymous
Guestpoor danny, and he wasn’t even in the audience, tis a sad day for all of us
March 1, 2004 at 4:00 am #48542Anonymous
GuestDanny Elfman didn’t show up, did he? When the faces of everyone was on screen they used a photo. That’s sort of funny.
Why go if you aren’t going to win?

GuestWhoa! All of us at the same time!
Interesting…

Guest“Why go if you aren’t going to win?”
HA, that is a great point. It is totally not fair that Howard Shore won yet again for a score that wasn’t even entirely original. If he wins for “Into the West” (the most boring song on the planet) then I’m going to curl up into a fetal position in the corner of my room with Big Fish playing on my stereo.

GuestI guess it’s time for me to curl up and turm on my Big Fish soundtrack…

GuestWell, you have to admit that the score’s pretty damn good! LOTR got all of the nominations! π―
March 1, 2004 at 6:00 am #48552Anonymous
GuestHis music for FOTR really deserved the award but not ROTK… so, another award for Mr. Shore eh? How boring…
March 1, 2004 at 11:55 am #48555Anonymous
Guesttoo much information…
March 1, 2004 at 7:37 pm #48560Anonymous
Guestit’s a better score than big fish. you can’t argue about that. even though big fish is a great score it’s not as great as rotk, which is better than the fotr score in my eyes.
March 1, 2004 at 7:41 pm #48561Anonymous
Guestyes, you can argue about that, because it’s a matter of opinion. It’s not like a FACT or anything that ROTK had a better score. I for one thought that Big Fish was tons better. Better in my eyes, like you said.
March 1, 2004 at 10:26 pm #48565Anonymous
Guesti know it’s a matter of taste. but i think rotk definitely deserved to win. it’s an amaing soundtrack. i don’t think it’s good to always think danny is the best, even when in this case i think even he would say that howard should win. danny should have won a million oscars, but he hasnt, and there’s no point complaining about it.
March 2, 2004 at 12:15 am #48567Anonymous
GuestThey’re both so different. The whole Lord Of The Rings soundtrack lasts probably for more than 7 and a half hours, and Big Fish only lasts around 2 or so hours. Both are good soundtracks.
March 2, 2004 at 4:58 am #48575Anonymous
GuestNot to take anything away from Mr. Shore, but considering Lord of the Rings massively epic sensibilities, and Peter Jackson dictating the score’s sound, just about any competent composer would have come up with the same massively epic music, only with slightly different action licks and passages.
March 2, 2004 at 6:19 am #48581Anonymous
GuestSo what if ROTK has 7 hours of music? Can anyone stand listening to it? It gets boring and repetitive. I don’t even really care for the stuff left in the movie. You can compose hours and hours of music, but that doesn’t make it good. Big Fish’s score was the right length, it had plenty of very beautiful, interesting, and diverse themes that matched the film perfectly. If I were in the Academy, I would have injected all the music voters with sodium pentathol so that they would have spoken the truth and voted for Big Fish rather than join the hobbit bandwagon.

you just did

GuestHey…here’s a little tidbit of info i agreed with when discussing this crap with E
Once they win, the cult status goes to hell. So in that respect i’m glad Johnny Depp and Elfman didn’t win. They could just as easily change with all that Oscar fat, and become less than what they are. Besides, it’s just a statue….and i’m glad LOTR took some of Titanic’s thunder – I was getting tired of the smugness of James Cameron being on top of the world…
March 2, 2004 at 8:00 pm #48589Anonymous
GuestI disagree with SpiderFan and Bodhi. I think the themes fit the movie perfectly, and it has it’s own sound that distinguishes it from other soundtracks. I’ve not heard much from the soundtrack by itself, but I KNOW it’s fabulous within the movie. Isn’t this what it’s all about, anyway?
I haven’t seen BigFish yet, so I can’t comment on how good it is in the movie, but I know it’s good by itself.

Guestno i didnt you fool. it doesnt get borin. infact im willing to bet that if danny had written the lotr score and shore wrote the big fish score(as they are now) all you ppl would be saying lotr is the best score ever. i know it. and shore didnt dictate the scores sound. he only offered suggestions.when did you make that up? howard shore composed, orchestrated and conducted his original score. thats competent.big fish is nice, but lotr is better. in the film the lotr score had a bigger impact on me than big fishes score did. it made you feel certain ways that the big fish wasnt as effective at doing.
March 2, 2004 at 10:59 pm #48591Anonymous
Guestelf, you’re convinced that your opinion is a fact, and that is really bothering me. What I am trying to say is that in my personal opinion, the Big Fish score really was better than the ROTK score, and besides, Shore basically already won an oscar for the same score. In my opinon, and I repeat, IN MY OPINION, Danny did deserve the oscar, and it isn’t just because I’m being biased. Is that really so hard to believe? Whether it would be a good thing if he won it or not is something different than if he deserved it or not, so I’m not even gonna get into that. And you said “danny should have won” which to me, sounds like complaining that he didn’t. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but you’re trying to justify your invalid argument. Fool.

Guestβ… [in fact] im willing to bet that if danny had written the lotr score and shore wrote the big fish score(as they are now) all you ppl would be saying lotr is the best score ever.
Hey, Elfman will forever be my master (as Elfman himself refers to Herrmann), but none of his scores are βthe best score ever.β
“… shore didnt dictate the scores sound. he only offered suggestions.when did you make that up?β
Uh, is that directed at me? Maybe you should reread my post.
β…howard shore composed, orchestrated and conducted his original score. thats competent.β
Iβm fairly certain I said nothing about Mr. Shore being incompetent.
β…big fish is nice, but lotr is better. in the film the lotr score had a bigger impact on me than big fishes score did.β
Well obviously. It’s Lord of the Rings, after all.
