GuestThink About This Folks…
The script for Charlie & The Chocolate Factory isn’t even finished yet and Elfman has already signed on. This may not come as a suprise because this is a “Tim Burton” film but here’s what I think…Composers are brought in during conceptual periods because they are either 1) a past associate of the director or 2) working on a musical. Burton & Elfman are associates (duh…) but I’d like to think that the second choice is just as likely.
I’d love to see a live action Nightmare Before Christmas.

GuestThe first draft of the CHARLIE script *is* finished.

GuestEither way, Elfman is doing the music because Burton is directing. That is why.

GuestAbsolutely right, sleepy… and I think there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a simple as the fact that Burton and Elfman have such a good relationship means that they’re confident that signing Elfman on this early will yield the desired result… of course.

GuestYay for Oompa-Loompahs!!

GuestWas there ever actually doubt about the Oompa Loompas? I was unaware of that. Sheesh, Elfman or not, I would have boycotted the film if they altered the script THAT much from the book.

GuestIt’s not going to be a musical from the report that I read in our newspaper, which I think is a better way to go.

GuestI think it’s a better way to go, also. A musical’s already been done!

GuestI agree… a musical would ruin the kind of mood we expect from a Burton/Elfman movie. NMBC is an exception, being a stop-motion kiddies film. Making Wonka a musical could turn it a little cheesy!! Although, maybe the Oompa Loompahs could sing… as they do in the book, anyway. Well, Oompas can do what they like – I love em whatever they do!

Guestyeah well…it should be good since Elfman is a wiz at those cutesy-but-malicious songs he devises…

GuestI read the book not too long ago (again) and the Oompa Loompahs have songs that they sing after the bad children get what’s coming to them. But, the lyrics are COMPLETELY different than the films “Oompa Loompa Doopiddy Doo” versions. I read an interview with John August on aintitcool.com, (he’s writing the screenplay) and he said that there will be the songs from the book and that’s it. I’m sure that’s what Elfman is working on at the moment. I can’t f-ing wait!

GuestIt sounds so dang good. But, so did the remake of Planet of the Apes. I was so disappointed with that movie (the score is in my top 5). Hopefully this one won’t disappoint.

GuestMan, i dont even have a top anything with Elfman’s stuff…it’s all too damn good for favoritism…it’s too damn difficult. I variate too much , hence the lack of a “syllabus of my personal favorites” – tee.

GuestI felt the songs in the book (and in all of Roald Dahl’s books) went on too long. I actually preferred the single-stanza summary songs in the first film version. Quick, to the point, let’s move on.
Now, “Cheer Up, Charlie” on the other hand, should have been excised before it was ever recorded! Arrgh!!!!

GuestHee hee hee.
Whenever I see the movie and “Cheer up, Charlie” begins, I echo: “Shut up, Mother…..”
