GuestRyan, you really should have a link to sites where you can buy Elfman’s sheet music, because I’m sure questions like the above are driving ppl crazy on this board.
Well, Jenny, you can buy Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas songbook from http://www.amazon.com or http://www.musicnotes.com.
(And it’s nothing personal, Jen.)

GuestIs it ever possible to get hold of the FULL score, ie the one used to actually record for the movie… I only ever see these happy-clappy piano songbooks. Can we get the real deal?

GuestYou can’t answer these Elfman sheet music questions properly, no matter how much info or links to add to a site. Believe me, I’ve been answering them for over 6 years, so If I can have the patience and strength to do so, so can you!
If people would just use Google or any other search engine they’d find their answer. Unfortunately they type in Danny Elfman and this is the first site that pops up — and they never explore the hundreds of other results.
Here are a few short facts I’ve come to realize over the years:
– There is no EDWARD SCISSORHANDS sheet music in existence.
– Someone asks for NIGHTMARE sheet music, you point them in the right direction, then they go “no, I want the full score sheets (even though I did just ask for sheet music, you’re too stupid to read my mind and realize what it is I really wanted!!”
– I hate sheet music questions, requests, etc!

it does exist – i was hoping someone had a copy saved to a hard drive, and could email it to me – i didn’t expect to be bashed for asking a question.

Guest> i didn’t expect to be bashed for asking a question.
You have to understand that people get sick of having to answer the same questions over and over again, Jenny.
These include:
-“Where can I get sheet music?”
-“What kind of equipment does Danny use?”
-“What’s the job of an orchestrator?”
-“How can I rip an isolated score from a DVD?”This board comes with a nice search engine where you simply can type in the words “sheet music”. You’ll get about 82 results.
Netiquette: Search the board before asking a question.

GuestYeah, because she’s supposed to know that. If you’re sick of answering the same questions, then don’t answer them and save yourself from looking more like a jerk. Yeah, you’re right that it’s always best to do a search elsewhere, but is it really necessary to waste time to write something that is meant to make somebody feel stupid? This could have been handled more politely or not at all. Either would have been more appropriate. This is an all too frequent occurence at this board. Then again, what more can you expect from an internet message board?

GuestThe EDWARD sheet music is eight pages long. It’s probably a single arrangement of “Ice Dance”. Otherwise, there’s nothing else.

GuestHi, just thought I’d muddy the waters. Tim Perrine’s crumbling Elfman Zone site contains a FAQ page which, to my mind, seems an excellent way of deflecting these questions without offending the enquirer. Is there such a thing on your site Ryan? (Sorry, my poor eye sight can take your site design only in short bursts! I can only read the discussion board page when I “Select All”) It’d probably be good time-saver. Tim’s page recommended http://www.jumpmusic.com/ – which to me just looks like loads of links to bona fide sheet music sellers. Elsewhere on the web you can usually pick out some theme arrangements. There’s also a series of Warner Bros piano arrangements etc. of much of their music; from within these hefty volumes there’s a few surprising odds and sods you might glean. I really should try to dig them out (I think I made a photocopy or two once). As for orchestral music, I seem to remember someone from Talking Herrmann having seen and analysed (in musical rather than film terms) an original manuscript score from one of the Pee Wee movies, and possibly I saw a copy of one of the pages, so it must be on the web somewhere. Publications of full orchestral scores of film music are impractical – the original score from most films is unplayable in a concert hall, and the cost of preparation and publication isn’t merited by the interest of film music scholars or buffs. Elfman’s music is a worst-case scenario because later works relie more and more on electronic means. His music has, on occasion been adapted, but mostly in arrangements for small bands, and the music suffers from temporal as well as sound compression. There must be a decent working score for Batman and Batman Returns out there for McNeely to have conducted suites, but most likely purchasing is impossible. Composers such as John Williams get a better run with suites that are performed with some regularity in concert halls and for cheap compilation discs – scores-with-parts are sometimes available through orchestral libraries (check with your local librarian for ideas and contacts).
Now. An answer just as useless, but surely it leaves you feeling that someone was trying to encourage you? :oP
Finally, try the link below for some sheet music arrangements…

GuestIn fact, if you have $80 it looks like you can get a full orchestra arrangement o Spider-Man main titles from sheetmusicplus. Gosh, they’re so good to us these days.

GuestI am looking for some sheet music for an orchestra concert, we have the idea that in december (our usual christmas concert) we want to kind of turn the tables and make it a horror concert, and I told my director that Danny Elfman would be perfect, I could find Sleepy hollow but I would like the nightmare before christmas score, anything from beetlejuice to edward scissorhands not just for vocals/piano/guitar I would like the whole thing, if someone could just point me in the right direction, its seems when I’m looking for his music I’m going in a big loop, always coming back to this site, a point in the right direction would be nice. if you could email me it would be appreciated thanks
