GuestJust incase anyone’d Like to know, here are the dates for Shore’s LOTR Symphony performances:
• 3/26/04 – Columbus Symphony
• 3/27/04 – Columbus Symphony
• 4/16/04 – Flemish Radio Orchestra and Choir
• 5/23/04 – London Philharmonic
• 6/4-5 – Atlanta Symphony
• 7/16-17 – Seattle Symphony
• 7/30-31 – Pittsburgh SymphonyLooks to me like here in London might be the only place sold out so far. Correct me if that’s wrong. I haven’t booked yet. I’m worried that I won’t get a ticket. I’ve gotta keep trying returns (which’ll be practically impossible to get!), or hope that my friends in the LPO admin can do me a favour ;o)
Blunt, you’re in London – are you gonna go to this concert?>¦:o)

GuestHuh . . . it just now occurred to me that there is the potential for confusion between the LOTR symphony by Howard Shore and the “real” LOTR symphony by Johann de Meij . . .

GuestI was too late, J. Such a pity they don’t seem to have got the BBC in on the act. We could all hear it on radio, and make copies for those across-the-seas. I also have no friends in the LPO (or anywhere else for that matter!). Maybe you could masquerade as a second violinist and sit at the back. They hardly ever play anyway – just mime. I’m convinced one was a cardboard cut-out at the Goldsmith concert…
Noone’s going to brave security and take a recorder of some description? Forlorn hope. There *has* to be a CD on the way…

lol – THe Goldsmith concert was the London *SYMPHONY* Orchestra. This Shore one is gonna be the London “PHILHAMRONIC” Orchestra! hehe. Infact, the LSO has one of the best string sections around, especially from a film music point of view.

GuestThe J – – I know that, I was just randomly musing that now the world has TWO LOTR Symphonies to confuse with each other!

GuestMaybe I was exaggerating just a tad. I got the impression that much of the Goldsmith wasn’t exactly taxing for them, but I could be mistaken.
And I do wish they didn’t make it so obvious (by the rustling of music) that multiple encores have been planned in advance. Just once (once, I tell ye) I’d like to see an audience just get up and bugger off home, leaving the conductor to race back out of his dressing room (batton a-quiver for encore) to an empty hall. Do you think they’d still play it?
:o)

GuestLOL. Blunt – the “racing out to nothing” actually happened in my orchestra once – or very nearly so, as there was only 4 old ladies left in the audience. Everybody else had “buggered on home” right quickly, as you put it. Then again, this was also the director who got SO into the music that he fell off the podium during the second movement of Howard Hanson’s Nordic Symphony. I had to keep a straight face because I had a huge solo a few bars after that – but still, it was fresh, man!
