Me too. 10 seconds after I’ve put the disc in my CD player and hit play, I’ve seen this post.

GuestI’ve always thought the main titles would be the perfect opener for a marching band show. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this being done?
Yea, gotta love that break drum/anvil part..

GuestIt’s a wonderful score! I found it in probaby brand new condition at our local used shop for $7! I bought that over a Savoy Theatre book…..but I didn’t have enough and my mom comes up to me and is like “Look what I found,” and I was like O_O
Great main titles….in fact, when I first saw it with my family my dad was like, “This music is very Tim Burtonish” and that’s before any of us knew the relationship between Tim and Danny! It’s so funny! It’s also interesting how Danny turned a reacurring motif into the actual theme for the movie.
Favorite parts of the score:
Main Titles
Martian Lounge
Pursuit (0:43) bass piano
End Credits…especially when the theremin turns into the Slim Whitman call!
I’m guessing the theremin noise is why the Indian Love Call was used to kill te aliens. One question, I’ve found the complete score on eBay before….is that real?

GuestIs that what it’s called? the break drum/anvil part? I love that part! I did piano lessons for about 6 years, left it, and four years later, I’m playing it again to compose music (along wth my synthesizer). I’d like to know more music lingo, because I now learn music by hearing a piece (i.e., Mars Attacks! main titles), finding a part a like (i.e., the break drum/anvil part), and trying to imitate it for my own original pieces. Anyone know any other lingo with audio examples? I’ll post anothe r topic relating to this:

GuestThe instrument sounds like a break drum to me (being any old piece of heavy, resounding metal… such as a car hubcap or such), but I’m pretty sure it’s used to represent an anvil. I just imagine a bulked up, evil martian blacksmith in the forge building all those spaceships for the invasion.

GuestAhh… MARS ATTACKS… Wonderful score for sure. My favorite tracks are the Main and End Titles of course. But I’m also fond of the Martian Madame / Lounge tracks, which are incredibly fun to listen to.
However I tend to think that the soundtrack is a little hard to really endorse in its second half. There are a couple action pieces like the robot scene, which I sometimes end up skipping. ‘Airfield Dilemma’ and ‘The pursuit’, although well written, are way too dissonnant for me, and too serious compared to the rest of the score.
NP : WISDOM. Hey, I like it !
