GuestSo apparently, Brett Ratner is on to direct Mission Impossible 3.

Could this mean maybe a second Mission Impossible score for Danny?

GuestYAY! haven’t heard that yet. Now there’s another reason for Danny Elfman to do the movie. One, he scored the firse one. Two, he’s worked for Brett Ratner more than once. I lvoed the MI score and I’d like to see it come back.

GuestAh… but Ratner is a huge fan of Lalo Schiffrin and in fact has had him score his two RUSH HOUR movies. It sounds like a toss up, but I’ll bet that Ratner will go with Schiffrin if the studio will let him have him!

GuestWhy does Brett Ratner keep getting work? It’s nice that he’s employed Elfman and Schifrin, but he’s like a french fry cook that thinks he should be a chef. Why can’t he just stick to making his dumb Chris Tucker movies; they suck, but he’s good at making them.

Hmm, what about Ratner’s After the Sunset, would Schiffrin be scoring that as well? While it does sound like a toss up, I think Ratner would want Danny to do the big Orchestral stuff for Mission Impossible 3.

GuestThat’s assuming Danny wants to do another big summer action movie.
He has recited his reservations for doing them over and over (with Spider-man 2 now being another reason why he is proven right to want to stop).Nat

Yea, he scored the “Rush Hour” movies.
In “Rush Hour 2”, there was a casino named “Red Dragon”.
“Red Dragon” was the name of Ratner’s next film, which Elfman scored, and which Schifrin had a cameo in. (He was the conductor of the orchestra in the beginning of the movie.)Also, Schifrin composed the Mission:Impossible theme, and then Elfman redid it for the film version.
Thats some freaky stuff.

Excuse me? Ever seen Red Dragon? Family Man? He’s an excellent director, not to be counted among the McG’s and Pitof’s but more with the real directors who make good movies. Also, the Rush Hour movies were pretty funny and they have good action sequences. It’s like a substitute for the currently deceased Lethal Weapons.

I don’t think Brett Ratner’s direction is excellent, I do, however, think he’s an average director who is smart enough to hire great talent for his movies, so the movie directs itself, in a way. Take Red Dragon for example: you have a top notch cast, a great screenwriter, a great director of photography, a great composer, a great editor…
If you’ve heard any of his commentaries, he never says “this is an idea that I cooked up.” It’s always “My screenwriter came up with this,” or, “this is a cool bit that Dante [the cinematographer] did.”

GuestI think Bodhi absolutely nailed it.

GuestBecause the second film was SO different from the first film, I would assume that Producer Tom Cruise is planning to set the third apart from the first two. He might not want Danny Elfman for that very reason.
Of course, this is just my speculation.

GuestGood lord. He’ll no doubt take Ethan Hunt to the highway to the Danger Zone.
