GuestHave a listen to my Danny Elfman inspired orchestral cinematic music! Would love to hear what you think?
Can you guess whether it’s a real orchestral playing or not!?!March 29, 2004 at 8:51 pm #49195Anonymous
GuestDid you write/arrange all that? If so, it’s very good music! It’s Elfman-y, but it has its own sound, unlike Mark Mancina’s Haunted Mansion score. Actually, my friend and I have been working on a series of shorts, then possibly a full movie basd on the shorts. We’d like to have some original music, but neither of us have any composing skills or tools. Perhaps you could write a theme for us, if you’re interested! Send me an e-mail!

I can – not real. The bassoon in “The Onslaught” (at around 0:45) sounds very real, though.

GuestAll very good… I’m very impressed. You’ve successfully shown quite a range of styles. The Baskervilles is great – I love the last few violin notes before the winds come in… what is that, part of an octatonic scale? That’s certainly a very filmic sound.
Nice one, Chris!

Guesti am in awe. jealous, too, but mostly just in awe. i have no musical talents of my own, and so will just have to imagine how amazing it must feel to be able to write sounds like this. (-;
thanks for sharing. and, for whatever it’s worth coming from a total ignoramus, i like the baskervilles the best.

GuestSounds pretty good considering your using Edirol.
Ever consider using some professional samples like EWQLSO or VSL?April 3, 2004 at 1:04 pm #49298Anonymous
GuestHey there!
Can you tell me what edirol is? I am using the Sibelius resident midi-interpreter but it’s got nothing on those sounds!
*just got sibelius 3, sighs happily*
Nice work with the compositions, too! Similar in tone to mine! Hurrah for Elfman influences. Presumably you recorded the vocal track for Baskervilles and then layered it over?

GuestThankyou so much for the feedback!
The Edirol HQ Orchestral Module is a VST instrument – not sure if it would work with sibelius though. Try http://www.sanctusangelis.com for some great software and composing techniques! I’m hoping to upgrade to some better sample libraries…
And, yes I wrote and arranged it all from scratch.Please do get in touch if you want to use my music for your films… I’ll be writing more tracks over the next few weeks – so check back if you want more…
